It’s fixed! The lovely Alex G. on staff at WordPress started off his note to me by promising not to eat me, as per my concern in the last post. He then informed me that the problem was with an image in one of my articles which had an errant “/” within its coding. Something that I, in a million years, would not have suspected. He fixed it for me, and voila! Problem solved.
I’d like to give a shout out to Sammy D. and to my darling Belinda for going to great lengths to provide me with possible solutions to my woes. Thank you both. 😀
The moral of the story: if you have a problem, go to support and/or post about it. And don’t be afraid – WordPress doesn’t eat bloggers. At least Alex G. doesn’t.

Glad you found a way to get help. I’ve always found it a great chore to find support from WP as there isn’t support unless you find a forum and someone to help you out and not usually in a timely fashion. Good for you. 🙂

Neh – dunno how you do text mode dear. I only go in when things go squiff in visual. / perhaps I should give it a tr/y?
HOW the HECK does a / do all that damage?! Cos they were there before.
What I would not give to know all that stuff about coding really. I KNOW – I could go study it or something and then get a job working on wordpress staff. I think ‘coding’ should be a compulsory school subject. Probably more important than a ‘second language’ – IT IS a second language. Dang – that could have been my post for today.
HAPPY all back to sorted. Have a good weekend.

Delighted to hear this, Linda – both the sorting out of woes, and the avoidance of a cannibalistic act courtesy of a fellow writer! Reminded me of a splendidly ambiguous line from Flanders and Swann’s classic ‘I Don’t Eat People’ song – ‘I won’t let another man pass my lips…’ which has always made me howl with laughter!

I am now clued in to now avoid using the letter ‘l’ in all cutlines in the future. Thanks, Linda G. And I’ve never written a thing in visual mode, only text. Doobster, why must you get me thinking about his stuff?

I think the visual vs. text mode is a matter of convenience for most people, depending on what they’re doing. I dunno – maybe we need a poll.
You’re welcome, Mr. Mark. 🙂

I’ve used WP Support in the past, too, and have found them very helpful and accommodating. Good to know.

Well congratulations on getting the problem resolved. Strange that an errant “/” would suddenly appear. You’ve used that image in the past without a problem, haven’t you?

I have. I asked him if he could tell me where he found the “/” but I think what might have happened was I stuck it in there by accident when I was in text mode while writing a post. Anyway, if it happens again I’ll know where to look.

You write in text mode? I sometimes go to text mode if I need to make a very specific edit, but most of the time, I use visual mode.

I only write in text mode if I need to include links in my post. My hyperlink button never works in visual mode, so I type in the code myself… but that only works in text mode.
Oh, and if I want to eliminate the large spaces between text when I hit the enter key. Text mode is handy like that for writing poetry… which is something I know you love. 😉

Interesting. I have no problem in visual mode with the link button for adding links. Also, if instead of hitting enter on your keyboard, if you hold down the shift key and then hit enter, it will eliminate the extra space between lines in visual mode. At least it does on my site. Are you using a Windows PC?
