Okay, I admit it; sometimes my grammar isn’t perfect. Oh sorry, did I forget to ask you to sit down before I dropped my bombshell? That’ll heal, don’t worry.
But seriously, I get tired of trying to write right all the time. It takes, like, brain cells and stuff to make sure I edit the hell out of every single solitary sentence I compose. And so while I do try to do my best here on my blog, I don’t always make sure my comments, my emails and (oh God) my texts are the essence of grammatical excellence. In fact when I’m in a hurry, I’ve actually been known to write things like “u” instead of “you” when tapping out a message on my phone. Don’t all gasp at once!
Is it lack of professionalism? Is it laziness? Or is it a bid to preserve the ever-decreasing amount of grey matter I possess due to the many things I have to deal with in any given moment?
What’s your excuse?

We all make mistakes, but I want to express myself as well as I can and that means looking at sentence structure, vocabulary, grammar…I want my words to say precisely what I’m thinking and feeling. but I’m human! I make mistakes. Sometimes my typing is terrible. Like life, I’ll do my best and accept it.

I think that comments and texts are the easiest to mess up on. When commenting I seem to make typos constantly, but it’s due to the rush I put myself in when doing so. What’s worse, is that I can’t edit it when it’s on another person’s blog, so I just look like illiterate to all those who read it.

I think a lot depends on one’s education growing up and being taught how to speak and write correctly in the native language. It becomes a habit. Sure, we all make mistakes once in a while in our usage or find typos in our blogs that we either catch before posting or let ride. Communication is tough enough without putting up language barriers. Sometimes, my typing gets away from me, like a runaway horse, and I need to edit mistakes. Some I don’t catch and ……oh, well……..there it goes with my silent apologies. I believe in thinking with the heart first and then cleaning up the grammar.

What bugs me is when is use the wrong word when commenting and it sounds like I can’t speak my own language, English, properly. But I know people realize we are typing a bit fast and things get missed. I wouldn’t be surprised if I typed something wrong in this comment. 🙂

I don’t stress too much over grammar but that’s because I don’t understand it well. I rely on the kindness of others to edit for grammar. And, I don’t believe in catching that last typo until I’ve pushed ‘post’

I know, sometimes I torment myself, proofreading and spell-checking my blog posts over and over. It’s not like it’s going to be read over nation-wide TV or anything, like a Presidential speech or something. I would be a mess if I was a speech writer for him, I’d have a nervous breakdown for sure. Using “u” instead of “you” in texts is so OK, you shouldn’t worry about it, it saves you time, and that’s something you could use, right?

My excuse ? Its just that computer languages have a totally different grammar and it isn’t as complicated as English (or even Tamil , my native language or Hindi). My grammar is very pathetic.

Anybody who expects perfection in grammar, spelling and punctuation across the board in all elements of posting frequent stories, comments and social media prompts across multiple platforms is simply being unrealistic, or hasn’t tried to type on an iPhone keyboard or while temporarily misplacing progressive reading glasses. Right, Linda G?

Exactly, Linda. I don’t speak properly at all times either. While I would love to have better and more consistently proper grammar in my writing, I won’t let my lack in this area prevent me from *communicating* via writing tools. Sheesh, writing isn’t just for writers 😉

Some of my best friends have terrible grammar and atrocious spelling. I don’t catch a lot of my own errors, but when I do, they’re monumental! 😀

I don’t have an excuse. Instead, I just lie to myself and say my grammar is the gooderest of all the grammarz.
