Just Jot It January 17th – Collection

I’ve been sitting here for a while pondering the things I collect. I can’t come up with a single collection I possess that doesn’t have a specific use. By that I mean I don’t collect knick-knacks, the major reason being that I hate dusting.

I have a record collection, a CD collection, and a DVD collection. Soon, I’m sure, there will be a Blue Ray collection as well, but so far I only have two of those. The kids have more. I have a jewelry collection that I haven’t added to in at least five years, mostly because I rarely wear any of it. I used to collect coffee mugs, but last time I moved I ended up throwing a lot of them out; I didn’t use them. I collect words – books are probably my biggest vice.

It’s a bit of a conundrum, isn’t it? They say there’s so much benefit in downsizing and getting rid of things we don’t need, and yet there’s a need to collect things that we don’t use. There’s a comfort in it.

What do you collect? Tell me in the comments or jot your own post and link it back here.

  17. The same with me, I used to collect all sorts of things. Mugs, cds, dvds. The only one that stayed with me is book.

  19. I’m such a minimalist when it comes to “things”, the only exception being books. I love books! I wish I had more space to show them all, but they are waiting in storage for when we get a bigger house. I can’t wait! Lol

  31. I used to collect wide-mouthed Nalgene bottles. If I saw one in a thrift shop, I couldn’t help but buy it, assuming that the previous owner just didn’t recognize its worth.
But we have since moved to a sailboat. We downsized – donating or selling all of our belongings and my Nalgene collection had to go.
Unfortunately, I parted with them too soon. It turns out we need the bottles to store cold water in our fridge. I now have eight Nalgene bottles aboard.

  32. I am having trouble commenting on your blog today Linda so I hope I have not said this three times. I collect teddy bears, shock horror now I have admitted it! I think as a society we do collect too much! 🙂

  33. I looked around and realized I don’t collect a thing! Which is crazy weird. I’m not sure if I should be grateful,or have my head examined.
