K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge 3 (A First for Me)

I took this picture at sunrise from my hotel room. The original was far more faded; I brought up the saturation to make the colour of the sun in the reflection of the windows pop. I only wish I had been able to get a clearer shot. You can see how long the shutter was open by observing the lights of the cars going by on the highway.

The three, in this case, (because the theme today is “three”) are the two buildings and the cars. Yes, a bit of a stretch, but it’s the best I could do in a pinch.

P.S. If anyone knows of any good (and cheap or free) programs for altering photos, I’d love to know. Thanks!

  1. When I trucked I hauled gas from the refineries in Montreal North to Ottawa. We were back and forth at all hours. In Montreal, on the right side of the Hwy 40 (the Metropolitan) when travelling East approximately at Pie IX there are three attached office towers made of mirrored glass. they are about 12 stories high and sit very close to the Metropolitan. In the late winter and spring mornings, they cast a shadow across the highway and there is a turn in the elevated road at that point. On sunny days, you’d be trucking along on wet roads, hit the shadow cast by what we called the three sisters, and it would be black ice on the turn. Many a vehicle ate the concrete median wall right there. At sundown they reflected the sun and could easily blind a motorist. It was just a good place to slow down.

  2. I can’t believe this is a sunrise ๐Ÿ™‚ Beautiful!

  3. I do the same thing with books. I have a stack, okay, two stacks, in my bedroom. Goal: one stack. I don’t know much the technology of photography, but I like the car lights being lines.

    • Yeah, that’s the trick – getting the stacks to go down before they have a chance to build back up. ๐Ÿ˜›
I’ve always loved the effect of traffic at night! This is the first time I’ve been able to capture it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks, JoAnna!

  4. Linda – your edits really add to the mood of this photo from your hotel room. Like the two strong buildings and all the lights….

  5. Wonderful, thank you for participating Linda!
We hadn’t actually fixed on whether we were doing a theme each week, until we had some other folks contributing; K’lee threw that out there and I happened to have used three for my collage.
I love the graded shadows on the tower blocks, great photo.

  6. Right now Google is offering Nik for free. Check it out and read some reviews. I just got it and am still playing around with it.
