It’s been a while since I just rambled about my life in progress. Some of what I have to share has to do with my blog as well, since what is life without the Internet? Seriously.
- Yesterday I spent an hour trying to change the size of Alex’s Youtube movie on his screen, because he said it was too small. I tried the settings in his account, I tried the settings on the computer, I switched computers, I switched browsers … I even downloaded a new browser onto his laptop, all the while with him screaming in my ear and signing “fix it! It’s too small!” For an hour. All to discover he wasn’t having a meltdown over the size of the movie, but rather the brand new Youtube logo on the top left corner of the screen. Ah, the joys of living with a kid with OCD.
- Alex goes back to school on Tuesday!!! (To understand my excitement, see above.)
- I’m so busy with my new freelance editing business, I need a schedule to fit everyone in.
- It cost me $73 the other day for the dentist to look at my sore gums and tell me I need to rinse my mouth with salt water for a week. I suppose it could have been worse.
- I have a book signing at Chapters on October 1st in Kingston, where my novel is set!! Equally nervous and excited!!!
- As of tomorrow, there’s a change coming to this blog. I’ve started scheduling my fiction series, “Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right.” The scenes will appear once a day for the next year (there are 365 of them). Some are funny, some serious, some downright sick, most are realistic, yet some are pure fantasy. If you want to learn more about them, see the link in the menu at the top of my blog page. I’m happy to be posting them here, but at the same time I’m a bit worried that I’ll lose followers over them. We’ll see.
- The internal battery in my laptop is almost dead. It gives me a warning every time I turn it on. Is this important?
- Alex goes back to school on Tuesday!!!
- I need a vacation.
So, what’s new with you?

Yeah! 😀 Hooray for you too!
Now I just have to decide what’s the best thing to calm my nerves for the signing- wine or a horse tranquilizer.

Thanks, Debby! 😀 I walked into Chapters with a book in my hand and asked the manager if she’d put it on the shelf. She told me first I had to do a signing, and if it goes well, they’d see. I have to advertise it myself though.

Good for you. I was in a chapters a few years ago and spoke with manager and it ‘slipped’ out I was an author, lol. So I asked her how I could get my books in there and she gave me a contact to speak to but also told me they’d only take Indie books on consignment, what’s not sold, or returned after sale comes back to me. And they take 50% of the list price. Plus at the cost of the books once shipped to me and the conversion of the US dollars there was nothing in it for me.

Yep, they’re taking 45% from me on consignment if I sell any. At $18.99–which is actually less expensive than Amazon if you calculate the exchange rate on $16.99US–I’ll make less than $3/book when I take the cost of them plus shipping into consideration. If the book had been longer, I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it at all. It’s highway robbery, but it’ll be an experience. And I may get some new fans out of it. 🙂

I see someone has already answered about the battery. Mine has had that error message for years now but so long as you have an adapter, the laptop should work. It might be worth getting a backup just in case, though. 🙂
Looking forward to your fiction!

Battery warning? Back up – every day. When these things go, they go fast and there’s no way back …….
or … get it fixed today. Doesn’t usually cost much (mind you, I’m in a different country, so …).

Love catching up on random things in people’s lives. Good for you for trying something new on your blog — it’s good for the soul to shake things up once in a while. 😉
I’m cheering you on for Tuesday because mine started this week and I *still* don’t feel like I’m back on my feet from the summer. I get it.

I’m excited about your book signing. Alex goes back t school is equally exciting. Have a tech check on your laptop before it gets serous. My last laptop was overheated. It went dead without warning. I bought a new one and had the tech transfer from hard drive to hard drive. Yes, take a vacation would be a wonderful idea.

You’re welcome! I’ll look out for your update, Linda. My laptop of 2 1/2 years old starts getting hot. My husband said laptop only lasts about 4 years. I hope it lasts longer than that. I’m backing up all the documents in an external 120 GB USB drive today or tomorrow!

The battery needs a change. It might work with power on, but if you need to work on battery sometime, you would need it.
Rest is life as usual 🙂

Thanks for the advice, Alok! I’ve stopped relying on the battery, as it shuts off my computer without warning now.

Ha! I’m so grateful somebody else has a messy life. My problem is people ask me what I’ve been up to and I draw a complete blank. “Nothing.” 🙂

I know, right? At some point, messy gets so messy it just all blends in to give us no description but either “busy” or “nothing,” because any more would overwhelm whomever we’re talking to. 😛
I’m glad I’m not alone too. Thanks, IB. 😀
