I am no marzipan maven. In fact, I used to take the marzipan off of my Battenberg cake before I ate it. My mum used to buy them every week when I was young. Back when we had a Marks & Spencer in the mall. I haven’t seen one–an M&S in Canada, nor a Battenberg cake–in decades.
Not that that’s at all miraculous when you think about all the stores that are going out of business. We still have our Toys ‘R’ Us here, but Payless is pretty much gone if not completely.
Does M&S still exist in England?
I dread the day when all we have left is Amazon.
Thanks to the three lovely bloggers who gave me my three “M” words for today’s not-A-Z post. You’ll find their links under the words “marzipan,” “maven,” and “miraculous.”
I’m in need of suggestions for “N” day, for my absolutely not the A-Z Challenge post tomorrow. One word per person, and please keep ’em clean.
Ta!

Okay, pleading ignorance here. What is marzipan? There were some spice candies we used to get when my kids were young, But since you are putting it on the cake, I can’t imagine it. Out here in the country, we don’t have anything but Amazon. I’m glad they are here for us. The little Chevron and the little grocery store don’t really care about the people who live here, they are just trying to get rich off those who don’t have transportation into the big cities. Ah, but how is that different than other stores?

M&S still exists in UK. Lucky for me I found an English Tea shop where I live in Florida and they sell Battenberg Cake! I loved it as a kid and would eat the marzipan first 🙂💕

M&S is alive and failing not sure if it will survive it’s clothes are dated! The spend a lot on big names and adverts but like everyone else in the big store world they are struggling.

We are losing our Payless Shoe store too and Toys R Us is gone. How about “nostalgia”, although you’ve used one of my words already so if someone else comes up with one I won’t be hurt. 🙂

I am guilty of running these stores out of business. I love the ease of online shopping, but I also love browsing stores. And I feel sad when another shop closes up. And guilty for contributing…so I try to split my shopping between the two. Luckily, I live in a tourist area so there’s plenty of great local shops here. I have never heard of Battenberg cake, so can’t reliably comment on that!
Narwhal, the “unicorn of the sea” is a great N word:)
