#SoCS – Too Many Minds

Where am I going?

What shall I do next?

Okay, the first question is one I ask regularly and has nothing to do with what I really want to write about. I ask myself where I’m going on a daily, sometimes hourly basis when I get up to do something and I have so much on my mind that I forget what I got up for.

Writing that, I realize it’s all the same beast.

I have too many things on the go. I’m taking courses to further my editing career (please don’t judge this post on any level where grammar is concerned–I’m not allowed to edit it), and I’m taking courses to further my writing career. I’m working full time at the editing job, part time at the writing gig, and learning to boot.

As my mother would say, I’ve got too many minds to go mad.

I have a schedule for myself–my editing and my writing–but that’s all I have listed. Then there are the dozens of other things I do during the day.

I swear, I take multi-tasking to a whole ‘nother level. And what’s worse? I’m still not getting everything done that I need to do.

The good news is I’ve got a few new novels coming out–I’ve written two and a half since November and finished another one. And at least one of those novels will be free for subscribers to my newsletter! Which I have to get organized and start sending out regularly. It’s got cobwebs on it at the moment.

Crickets.

Crickets stuck in cobwebs.

Where was I?

Haha! See what I mean?

So yeah. I’m afraid something is going to have to give, and I have no idea what. It SHOULD probably be social media. I’ve already all but given up my constant Twittering. Facebook is like the alien in Alien–stuck to my face and breeding somewhere in my innards.

There’s something to think about just before bed.

You can see the authoring thing is something I come by honestly. It doesn’t stop.

The imagination, that is. Not stealing other people’s ideas …

I should probably stop while I’m ahead.

  1. Hi Linda! I bet your books are awesome! I am going to read one of them when my to read list gets a little shorter! and when I do I will leave a review! Your saying about too many minds to go mad is funny!

  2. Sounds like a lot of our lives, I think: different ‘contents’ in the list, but the same scrambling task-to-task with some task overlaying and some tasks in parallel and some tasks lingering (with them darn crickets in the thickets) and pushing their way forward without much success (not much moves against sticky cobwebs … ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).
“Too many minds to go mad.” I like that!

  4. Yikes! That is a lot! It’s amazing that you managed to write so much with so much else going on, especially your multigenerational caregiving. Wishing you strength and wisdom as you continue to navigate such a complex period in your life. โค

  5. Do you find editing othersโ€™ work to help your writing, or slow you down (because editing as you go)?

  6. See? That’s why i can’t do yoga or meditate. The things on my to do list are always jostling each other for attention in my thoughts. Buy my list is not as extensive as yours. I’m exhausted just reading your post! Congratulations on juggling all these things successfully.

    • Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m unsure whether NOT asking these questions is more unhealthy than asking them.
The editing courses I’m in are through Simon Fraser University. They’re more focused on the career of editing than writing. I do think they have writing courses too. And yes, it’s all online. Here’s their website: https://www.sfu.ca

      • I like questions because they make me thinking. And thinking always leads to some learning if sorts, sometimes welcomed and sometimes not. But all good.

Thanks for the course details, i’ll have a look. And take your advice whist i look
