What Day is it Anyway? Friday, March 20th, 2020

My day today so far–10:32am:

Not much going on here today. It’s rainy and windy, so we probably won’t make it out for our walk. I consider myself grateful that I’m still able to leave the house. There aren’t many people out there, so they’re easy to distance ourselves from.

I came across a Youtube channel for Alex to watch of kids’ stories in American Sign Language. There’s no sound, but for those of you who are home with children, it might be interesting to watch. The gestures, facial expressions, and body language are fairly easy to understand. And kids, being the sponges they are, may just pick up a new language! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyKlPO62EsIltCabT92THlqESi0RVgIwq

On the heartburn front, it really seems to be situational. It disappears when I’m walking, sleeping, or doing anything other than thinking about the current world crisis. I really need to unplug and get working on my edit.

Yesterday:

I walked more than 11K steps! It was a good day for exercise, knowing from the forecast that I probably wouldn’t get out today. I live in an interesting old city, so there’s lots to look at.

Photo: Empty gated space between two buildings built in the 1800s. I’m not sure what they’re going to do with this spot, but I love the original 19th century atmosphere of it.

Same space on the other side–there’s a red object tucked into a pipe on the side of the building: it’s a leftover heart from Valentine’s Day.

Why I’m writing this post:

Because if you’re like me and stuck at home already, or if you’re going to be like me soon, the days of the week are going to be hell to keep track of. We have a wonderful community here on WordPress, and I’m sure many people are feeling nervous and/or isolated. I want to make sure every one of us has somewhere to congregate and someone to talk to.

I have loads of work to do, getting my books edited and written, so I may not be around too much. But I want everyone to know that you can start discussions with each other in the comments, and if you’d like to write your own “What Day is it Anyway?” post, you can link to this one. Hashtag #WDIIA.

Let’s keep in touch!

  6. My self-defense imposed autopilot during deep grief a few years back followed by ‘time tracking challenges’ after my stroke, left me often saying, “Oh, hm… didn’t realize it was Monday (Valentine’s Day, Christmas… Superbowl Sunday…thanks for educating me!) for long years now – I seriously just rather rest in the Dr. Seuss refrains on ‘being different and what kind of Who one is in Whoville” and trying to show up as expected, but moving on when I am of no use to others time frames – -sigh – not perfect, but, I get time-displacement issues – from ‘ways to orient myself’ when I fell down the rabbit hole on one topic or another/forum or another AND when I’m reminded, “Dudette – seriously? That info is like 15 years old…now….you are in need of brain upgrade…” – – LOL

  7. 11K! Wow! I was lucky to get out into the yard and walk around. Maybe I’ll get up to 100 steps again soon! Glad you are finding fun things for Alex to do. I have known the alphabet since high school so my friends and I could talk in the church choir or in class at school. My friends and I as we are on Face-time together share salutes of hugs and sign language. Maybe I should start watching this show. Gorgeous gates! Hang in there! Thanks for setting up this way to connect with everyone!

  11. I’m going to tag onto to your posts to know what day it is, Linda. We have rain and wind here as well, but at least it’s warm. I’ll see you tomorrow for #SoCS.

  12. Congrats on the number of steps you took yesterday. That’s amazing! I got nearly 10000 yesterday too but only went out for a short walk today.

As for th eheartburn, I’m glad in a way that you seem to have pinpointed its trigger.

  13. I have to remind myself what day it is when I wake up. After five days of this, everything is beginning to merge 😊 good luck with your plans.

  14. Today is the first day I know what day it is in more than a week, but only because I posted a Friday feature I used to do last year… This staying in and away is my natural state, though I do enjoy humanity, but on a very limited basis (extreme INFJ/introvert). I’m curious to see if even I get sick of being inside/away from people in a couple of weeks (or more). Hope you and yours are staying safe and not going stir crazy from being in the house so much. Cool gates. I’ve been taking my walks in the cemetery — there’s NOBODY in there. 😉

  15. That’s a whole lot of steps, Linda. I’m seriously impressed! And I do love your photos. 🙂

  16. Good for you on the number of steps you walked! The gates are beautiful. My sister-in-law gave me beautiful pins made from the patterns of the gates in Charleston a few years ago.

Our science teacher taught our high school class sign language so we could talk to each other without disrupting class. She was a translator at her church.

  17. Luckily for us writers, there’s always something to keep us busy…still, the idea of wanting to stay home vs being forced to stay home feels so invasive somehow. But I totally understand the reason why. I’m glad us bloggers have each other to talk to. 🙂
