What Day is it Anyway? Friday, July 8th, 2022

My day today so far—4:56pm:

I started off the week with having a Thursday appointment to look forward to. Something to count down to rather than a particularly good appointment. Just a marker for the time to go by. So I did pretty well all week with knowing what day of the week it was.

This morning?

I woke up with no clue. It took me a while to decide that it was Friday. So here I am with a What Day is it Anyway post.

The appointment was really something else. A routine dental cleaning for Alex. Why was it special? Mostly the three hour drive one way to get him there. The local hospitals won’t touch him with his heart condition, and neither will the regular dentists because he won’t stay still. So off to Ottawa we went. Preparation for something like this is huge. I had to get up and start his tube feed at 7am in order to get him to the hospital for a 1:45pm appointment.

So I did that and off we went. Nice drive (though of course it was expensive with the price of gas), and I listened to my audiobook all the way there.

Parked at the hospital, went inside, did all the COVID protocol stuff, sat down in the waiting room …

…and realized I’d forgotten to pick up and administer a dose of antibiotic so he can get his teeth cleaned.

So it was a nice six hour drive. Cost me $54 in gas, $13.50 for parking, and $33 for the chicken dinner I promised Alex if he behaved.

And his teeth are no more clean than they were at 7am yesterday morning.

Next available appointment? November 9th.

At least the audiobook—Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella—was good.

  1. Wow, Linda!
I’m sorry you never got Alex’s teeth cleaned! But glad your new apt is coming up in november!
    Still, an expensive day out!

  3. Oh Linda this is awful 🙁 Poor you. You could have posted jt to your own Stream of Consciousness Saturday where your prompt was ‘Make a Note’. You would have remembered the antibiotics maybe.

  4. You have so many ‘daily to-dos’ on your list, just for survival fronts for you and yours, PLUS juggling all the ‘my job to do this, at this time, on this front’ that meets the needs/wants/expectations of others?

Quite frankly, I’m amazed that A. Your brain hasn’t exploded/imploded yet and B. No wonder you protect yourself best as ya can, via, ‘I live in a timeless and full of potential space/time continuum’ – otherwise? What would be the ‘safe space’ you carve out for yourself, internally? To survive and keep your sanity?

That’s my own story, as I am allowed to ‘gaze in/observe’ your life – if it’s useful for you as a “okey-dokey, that sucked, but I’m still sane! so must have needed that lil thingee….’ story?

Feel free to adopt – 😀 Hoping the monetary hits and wait for ‘next appt’ don’t deliver additional….um…..’gotta take care of ‘this crap, now, too!’ – hugs and loves sent your way!

  9. There are days like that. I wish dentists nearer home would not hesitate to look at and clean Alex’s teeth. Thank you for sharing.

  12. That’s awful! I’m so sorry! I do have question though, you’ve probably answered it on an earlier post, I’ll try to look for it. It’s about Alex’s condition.

      • Well, I was just curious why if you have to tube feed Alex in the morning, how does he eat a chicken dinner. Can he eat some things? Or maybe you just tube feed him nutrients?

        • Excellent detective work! What I put on his plate for an entire meal is about the circumference of an Oreo. He loves to eat just because it’s what everyone else does, but he doesn’t eat by mouth 1/20th of the calories in a day that he needs to sustain him. So yeah, I buy an entire chicken so he can eat what amounts to a drumstick over the course of three days.
It goes under the category “the things we do for our kids.” Aside from the fact that it’s a meal for me too. Haha!
