#JusJoJan the 1st/23 – One resolution

I have one resolution for 2023 and that’s to organize my numerous goals.

Now, I’m sure you’re like, what the heck, Linda? Isn’t having goals just a subset of having resolutions?

Nuh-uh. It’s better than that.

I’ve spent the better part of the last year failing at most of the things I wanted to accomplish on a personal level. My freelance editing business is going very well, and I always manage to get projects done on time, if not early. But the stuff I wanted to do that isn’t on a deadline, i.e. writing my own books? Not so much.

So rather than resolving to write and publish, say, two or three of my own creations this year, I’m going more granular, by organizing my time so I can see what I can reasonably get done in the space of 365 days.

It’s easy to think “I’ll just scroll through Facebook and get to work on my own novel—the one no one is holding me accountable for—later.” But then five minutes on Facebook turns into hours and then I think “It’s okay, I’ll do it tomorrow!”

It’s the rinse and repeat that never ends.

Unless I organize myself.

So yeah, that’s my resolution. Set timers, work when I know I’ll have a chance, organize my time, figure out how long each step takes, and rinse and repeat that instead.

Sounds like a solid plan, right?

I’ll let you know how it goes.

P.S. I looked through my resolutions/bucket lists from past years and there’s one item I’m still striving for. In 2016 I said I wanted to spend a weekend alone in my home. Since then, I don’t think I’ve even had an hour alone. I’ll get there, though. Watch out for the boot, kids! 😉

  1. My resolution same as yours – log into Facebook to post for a client? Update my feed, as, it FEELS as if, If i post stuff for others, it doesn’t get seen unless I keep my feed fresh too – sigh –

Log in here to take a break, from wrangling through work stuff?

Sigh – three hours later – and now? perhaps all I get done is a mere 5 hours of billable work today – sigh – wigh – sigh – –

I NEARLY posted – back in December a ‘going on sabbatical’ and putting my blog here, to private/unpublished – just because – when I get overwhelmed and need to gain perspective, calm meself down? I come here – when I would have been better off doing deep cleaning of walls/ceilings, etc., cuz Fall 2022 house cleaning failed to happen this year – – but sigh, I don’t travel, I don’t go spend time with friends far away, cuz my job to be on hand, right now and available within 2.5 minutes drive time, for one who sometimes needs that but doesn’t need 911, overall –

My vacay/social time, is spent here, but if I’m not careful??? I pretend like I can take a 2-week vacation, EVEN when, it’s not, really, true! Sigh – just saying, “I resemble this post and feel your pain!” and now??

Sigh – incoming from other folks who are supposed to be on vacation, but are not ad incoming replies to ‘waiting for info’queries from me, from 12/8- 12/20 are now flooding the work in box – and so, I gotta go – but as always – thanks for the ‘vacay’ at your island resort for a while, as you listen like any good resort bartender/bartendress does – Thanks for the refreshing drink of words – with lil umbrella in it and all – – – 😀

  2. Best wishes with your resolution, Linda. The whole time management thing is a major challenge, especially with so much to juggle. I can certainly relate to the struggle, although my circumstances differ significantly.

  3. I found myself doing my favorite puzzles first thing in the morning. That is a bad trap for me. Now they are reserved for spare moments throughout the day.

  4. Great resolution. I need to dig out a timer again for the same reasons – it’s so easy to disappear down rabbit holes on Facebook, Instagram etc. Happy New Year.

  6. A wise and excellent resolution, Linda. Doing my own writing has worked best when I do it BEFORE I open anything else. Not that it’s happened a lot, but it works when I do it that way. Best wishes on the organizing and getting some time alone.

    • Thanks, JoAnna! Yes, I find that if I can get even a hundred words down before I open a browser, it really gets my momentum going for the rest of the day. Even for the stuff I’m working on that’s not my own writing. 🙂

    • I thought it was a great post and I loved the pic of you and your hubby. I would hate to meet the person/persons that wronged you though!

      • Happy New Year Mz. Kim…Thanks so much for stopping by. I guess when you live long enough, you will make some enemies. I just never thought it would be someone so close. I guess that makes you an easy target, b/c they can see best how to hurt you. But as I ended it, I will live a good life, a happy life with the people who I love and who love me. I have moved on and away from the evil doer’s and my family is stronger than ever. Blessings on you new year ❤ … We have so much to be thankful for ❤ …

  8. Linda I never thought of using a timer at home. I use it all the time at work because if I don’t I would never get anything done there. I will definitely give it a try on my personal time management. I’ll let you know if it helps keep me on task.

  9. I had no idea what “organize my goals” meant until you explained it further. Good luck on your resolution!

  11. I do the timer game a LOT! I set it for 15 minutes or 1/2 hour at a time….work on whatever I need to focus on (writing, housework, etc) and then when the timer rings I set it again and take a break for the same amount of time. It helps keep me focused, knowing that when the timer rings I can get back to the book I’d much rather be reading, lol. 💞
