I can’t remember a time I didn’t have a dog. Tramping through fields and forests with Granger is always one of the highlights of my day, not just because it’s so beneficial for my mental and physical health, but seeing how happy it makes Granger, racing against the wind, ears flapping, brings me immeasurable joy.

We’ve both loved our daily adventures, exploring off the beaten track as well as treading well-worn paths. It’s where I untangle plot points, come up with my best ideas.

Relax.

Unwind.

Granger often brings me his lead when I’ve sat at my desk for hours, nudging me gently with his nose. Rain, snow, ice, rain, there’s nothing (except when it’s too warm for him) that has stopped me going out.

Until now.

Now fear, fear stops me from taking him out.

  1. Reblogged. At 73 I still have leftover fear from being attacked under 5 years old. Kali didn’t scare me very often but she made me afraid of other dogs around here. Most not fenced or leashed. She was overly bossy for a little dog which left me to fend off or flee.

  2. This is just awful but unfortunately it’s becoming too common. Some dog owners should not have dogs.

  4. It took years but most people in my area now follow the city’s leash law. but it took years, and many calls to animal control to get people to leash.
    But I always carry a cane, and my wife does too, when we walk Max. Actually most times it hasn’t been other dogs that have been the problem, but the rare owner that insists that their dog doesn’t need to be on a leash.
