The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
In a truthful and incredibly rich tale of the disparity between comfortable and poor, “The Casual Vacancy” highlights the fact that one can never really know what goes on inside someone else’s existence.
I have to say that it was a little difficult to remember who was who at the beginning, but once I had all of the characters sorted out, I simply couldn’t put it down. Rowling’s ability to dive into the depths of each of her characters is every bit as wonderful as with her Harry Potter clan – but don’t expect a children’s tale. At times a difficult read, it is, (and I can’t express this enough) truthful–full of life and all its joys and misery.
This book will remain with me for a long while; it will sit in a place of honour amongst my favourites of all time.

I’ve been curious about this book! I haven’t bought it yet because unlike other books, it just seems to be raised in price over time. I read a few pages with the free preview Amazon had and my eyes almost fell out of my socket. I knew nothing about this book, premise , story, genre… I just new it was J.K. Rowling’s new book and I had assumed it was YA. lol. I will be moving this up my list of books to buy.

It’s absolutely not YA. But it is very good! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 🙂

I think she was bold in saying that. Every single book does not resonate with every single person. She needs to realise that.
I hated the 50 Shades of Grey series…. I used to roll my eyes and think “What? They’re at it again”? But I read them so I could form an opinion. Others loved them. Go figure. lol
I must admit that I have no desire to read J.K. Rowlings book. Not that it mightn’t be good. Just didn’t sound like something I would like lol

That’s fair. 🙂
I can tell you though, it’s 150 times better than 50 Shades… and yes, I tortured myself … mean, read all three books. 😉

Just be forewarned – it’s NOTHING like Harry Potter.
Thanks for reading my review. 🙂

I was very apprehensive at first but, like you said, when we got to know the people it became easier. Totally different from Harry potter series. It was like watching a social drama. Even her other book , ‘Cuckoos calling’ is different. I liked both of them.

I was avoiding reviews of this, but yours has made me decide to give it a try! Thanks, Linda. That’ll be my book for the weekend, methinks.

She’s a great writer – one of those who makes it looks easy – and a wonderful storyteller. You should go for it.
