By definition, trying not to flounder means struggling not to struggle. Far too much to wrap my insufficiently caffeinated brain around.
If I were to say I flounder with one thing in life consistently, it’s getting up in the morning.
I actually shocked myself one day not too long ago—I’m going to say it’s been a few weeks now—when I woke up and realized there was something I needed to do, and I sat up and put my slippers on without even thinking about it.
That never happens!
Okay, it happens once.
But you get what I mean.
Is that how early risers do it every day?
Seriously, I want to know.
My dear friend Dar is the founder of a new February prompt called Floundering February! Here’s the link. Check it out and join in. It’s fun!

Hugs and Loves – in my experience? UNTIL you have the space and grace to just go to bed and sleep when you are rested, go back to sleep if ya want to, and not feel ‘bad’ about slipped responsibilities, duties in the care of other things, no matter where they are at, just now –
UNTIL you have steady, known income to meet all financial needs, disaster, emergency funds, NOT tied to how many hours you work ‘for pay’ on any front, coming in from long ago investments made…
UNTIL you can have SOME control over fashioning your day around your preferred hours, on many fronts, biologically, illness, needs, meds, changes of life and letting others know “I’m a night owl – I’m an early riser – ” and that is always respected for anything other than life/limb risk emergency?
Meh – until you get all of that – just say, “But first, Coffee – – Okay – I’m Awake! But if I seem inchorent or scattered, realize I’m operating off of 2 hours restorative sleep in the past (XX hours of day(s) and well – it just is what it is and ya flounder just until you say, “THATs NOT an emergency and I’m not available until I have woken up, or had coffee or decided to tackle work projects” – LOL.
I recently have had to retrain my core, long time, forever, family, friends and clients on what is, to me, priroity, emergency, etc. in my World – LOL. Slow going, overall, but meh – I’m personally healing, bit by bit, in health and well being – even if I still flounder sometimes – LOL

Ya just do what ya gotta do and hold on for as long as ya can – when things out of your control, change and ask for more of ya than you may feel up to, at the time – coffee helps, for as long as it does – LOL

I work at a restaurant, so I live on restaurant time. I am not a great early riser either.

It sucks when your job dictates unreasonable hours, doesn’t it? 😦

I hate getting up early, and I’ve done it every day for 50 years, so your post-talked to me today. Just because I’m up, I would not want to be referred to as an early riser.

Yay! Not an early riser, either. Ever! And I like to point out to early callers that I promise not to call them at 4 AM as shut my book to sleep. That makes one of us keeping their promise!
Hey, thanks for playing the floundering February game!❤️🤗

I’m on the opposite side of this threat, lol. A friend kept phoning and waking me after 9 pm, but finally stopped when I threatened to call her back at 4am when I got up.

I am a habitual early riser. Still, these days I lay there pondering for a few minutes, then sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes, then finally get up.

Did you used to just jump out of bed? I share your process …. after I’ve hit the snooze button at least half a dozen times. 😛

Yes. Yes, I did used to jump out of bed bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Now, a couple of things have had an impact on that enthusiasm. One, I am retired… technically no ‘reason’ to get up so early, but I still prefer to do so. However, I live with two people who like to stay up late and sleep in late. Too often, I am guilted into staying up with them – one more game of Uno! one more movie! let’s order pizza! LOL. Pretty soon it’s midnight (or past). Then it takes me, like, three days to recover from flouting my wonted rhythm. God love ’em.

I’ve got to admit I’ve been more like you lately, floundering to get out of bed! With the rain it’s even worse. This is the only comfortable place to sit for me until my back pain is better anyway. Crossing my fingers and saying a prayer that tomorrow changes everything!

Nah. It’s totally understandable. When something is constantly on your mind, it’s hard to focus on anything else. ❤
