JusJoJan24 the 11th – Olive

This post is part of Just Jot it January, and today’s prompt is from Kaye. Check out her blog here!

I mean, I like the color olive as much as the next guy. I do. It has a way of unobtrusively bringing out other, more vibrant colors. Back when I decorated my coloring calendars with pencil, I used olive all the time to highlight the other greens.

Take the following picture as an example. See how wonderful my avocados in their bright green bag look against my olive counter top?

It’s lovely.

So you’re probably wondering by now why this post comes across more like a rant than a celebration of the color olive.

The answer to that question comes again with my 1940s olive counter tops, scratched, scarred, and burned as they are.  And the fact that I reeeeaaaaly want to modernize my kitchen one day. Preferably before the 2040s.

So here’s to olive! Just not in my kitchen, please.

This colorful post is part of Just Jot it January! Want to join in? Just click here to get to the prompt and drop your link. It’s fun!

Much gratitude again to Kaye for the prompt!

Easily one of the best things on the Internet–Thursday Doors

It’s no secret that I adore doors. And I love going for walks, so Norm Frampton’s prompt, Thursday Doors, provides me with the perfect opportunity to take pictures and get some exercise at the same time!

Having said that, it’s been a while since I went out on a good doorscursion, so I’ll show you some photos I took last May of a beautiful house in my neighbourhood. Oh, how I long for green grass again!

Look at all that fantastic ironwork fencing. I wonder if it’s as old as the house.

The pattern of the fence doesn’t match the iron around the upper windows, but either could have been added later. And look at those doors! They remind me of church doors.

Also to note: if you’re able to click on the image to make it bigger, there’s something with ears on the “roof” of the upper middle window. Probably one of those fake owls that are supposed to keep the birds away.

If you’d like to see more doors, check out Norm’s prompt post, and be sure to go out on a doorscursion of your own! https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/2018/04/05/thursday-doors-april-5-2018/

Ominous-Looking Door for #ThursdayDoors

I live in a lovely old section of town. Now that the weather’s getting nicer, I’m able to get out and take some pictures of doors. Here’s what I came up with this week.

I haven’t been able to find any history on this house, but it’s obviously old. I’d love to know what kind of house it is. I plan to do more research on it.

The front door has been updated, by the looks of it. I love the thickness of the wall.

This photo was taken at sunset, whereas the others were taken this morning. Note the way the sun at the top corner of the house makes the photo appear aged.  Also, note the door on the right side of the house.

It’s hard to tell what it’s made of, but it looks metal. Was the place a jail?

There was some major hardware on it once upon a time…

Thursday Doors is brought to us all by Norm Frampton. Check his awesome photos and join in! https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/2017/05/04/thursday-doors-may-4-2017/

Old Houses

Well, I did it. I risked incarceration to bring you a picture of two of my favourite houses that I walk past every day on my paper route.

Hope you like them.
