With all this recent talk about doing research, I’ve decided to do some of my own. Actually, I decided a week ago, but I’m jumping on the bandwagon with those who have blogged about it.
When I first decided to set my novel in Kingston, Ontario, I looked around the internet for historic houses there and found this one. As luck would have it, it’s a Bed and Breakfast. So next week, guess where I’m going to stay…? Yep, I’ll be right up in the tower room, which is complete with a ladder to the roof from the inside. I have described, using only my imagination, every nook and cranny of this glorious mansion. But now, I’ll be able to do so from the inside. π
In the three days I’ll be spending there I plan also to both drive and walk around town, getting a real feel for the atmosphere. And who knows, maybe I’ll even meet my main character while I’m there. He’s sure to be in residence, after all. π

Yes I am sure you will love it ! I visited America when my sister was working out in New York, we had a week there which I loved exploring while she worked then evenings out together. Then we spent five days in Boston, visiting Salem, and Nantucket so I saw some houses like those fabulous!

This place looks beautiful. Have fun! Researching locations for a book will make the book almost write itself. You won’t struggle with setting details as you write. Take pictures and detailed notes, especially on unique things you find that you want to incorporate into the storyline.

Catching on to the research wagon, you’ll find such joy in the details, Linda. Also, that the better the research, the easier the writing.

Aaaahhh… EASE? Did I say it will be easy? Really? Well, at times, it is; that is, when the Muses visit, which makes it all worth it, eh?

Yes! I used the word ‘ease’, though I must say I wasn’t easy with it when I did. π You have it right when you say the Muse needs visit. I hope the quiet and the solitude will allow me to find her and make it all worthwhile.

That’s my kind of research! Wow! That’s the bad part about writing sci-fi centering on another planet. I can’t go there and experience what my characters do. Hope you meet up with your characters and get the experience your and the novel needs. Looks like fun!

That is awesome! Research really is important. Just watch out. George Martin as a kid made Staten Island into this amazing, mythical land. Then he got there and it was disappointing. Have a great time!
