Be patient. Good things come to those who wait. ~ Fortune cookie.
Really? How long do I have to wait?
I wonder about this saying. Is it really enough to wait for something good to happen? Surely something good will happen eventually.
I have to disagree. If I want something good to happen I need to take action to make sure it happens. If I want to finish my novel, it’s not enough just to wait. If I want a job one day, I’m not going to sit around and wait for one to drop into my lap. So where does this fortune cookie get off telling me to wait?
I suppose there are some things we simply have to wait for, however. Love, for instance. It seems the more I’ve looked for it in my life, the more elusive it is. Giving up looking for it, in my experience, has been the only way it’s found me.
Give it up, get it all. Have you heard that one? Maybe I made it up, because I can’t seem to find it anywhere on Google. It makes a lot of sense to me though. When I give up striving for one thing, other things present themselves as opportunities to get what I wanted in the first place. Tunnel vision doesn’t do anyone any good.
I still doubt patience has anything to do with it. Thoughts? Have you ever given up on something and then got it anyway?

I could SO go on about this, but the best things to happen to me have happened without my “trying” for it. I’m a big believer in when the student is ready, the teacher appears.

Letting go is usually my last ditch effort, though history has proven to me it should be my first step – LOL
I race around, both mentally and physically, doing everything I can to solve a problem or make something happen and in the end, tearfully tell the Universe – “Well – I have no clue what else to do, so handing it over to you – please handle” and go about my merry way – if I TRULY let it go – i.e. don’t worry about it, try other ideas, just in case the Universe needs/wants my help 🙂 – lo and behold, everything works out within 24 hours or less – –
Has happened so many times now, you’d think I would have learned my lesson by now – –
But no, guess I’m either slow or stubborn – – 🙂 Thanks for this reminder as I send a note to the Universe regarding a particular issue I’ve been wrestling with….. 🙂

It’s definitely a hard lesson to learn – I’ve been trying for years myself. I think it takes a certain level of discernment and judgement. Difficult to find when we want something REALLY bad, isn’t it?

I think being raised with the tenet “God helps those who help themselves” has a lot to do with me looking at letting go as the last choice – and yet, there is a wonderful beauty/grace in turning it over to the Universe, with a “I’ll show up and do what’s put in front of me to do – please take care of the rest – ” ! LOL
Still haven’t won the lotto – but the Universe hasn’t managed to put the lotto sales kiosk right in front of me just quite yet – – – LOL

Haha! If your tenet is true, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should help yourself to a lotto machine. hehehe
I thought about adding that saying to my post, actually. Thanks for bringing it up! 😀

When I want to find something in my mess that is home, I usually give it up after a few seconds because it will present itself later either because it was bored of hiding (sometimes in plain sight) or got jealous because I was ignoring it and searching for something else at that time. Your quote , the one you made up, reminded me of it 🙂
And yes, I have to agree with you on love except that I haven’t found it yet 😉

Oh I so wish that worked for me! I think when I ignore things that are hiding they just hide deeper. 😛
Keep looking for love – or don’t! Maybe it’s hiding with that other thing you lost. 😉

Perhaps the “give it up; get it all” is another way of saying “contentment is wanting what you have.” I agree that patience is key in things like love but not in things requiring action, hard work and ingenuity.

Love is a funny thing Linda, it can show up when you least expect it. You just never know, I do agree with you though looking for it just frustrates you.

I don’t generally give up as much as I GET BUSY. It seems like when I get busy with life, whatever I’m waiting for shows up!

Haha…I like your new quote Linda (bec flippancy is my middle name) I do get tired of all those ‘self-empowering’ quotes that abound and make us feel guilty about not embracing 24/7!
But I’m gonna tweak your quote a bit… “Give up hankering for good stuff and it might just cheekily creep into your life.”
Oh no, I’ve just had a thought – unless we’re in a positive mindset we only (apparently) receive good karma. All so confusing!
