It seems every week WordPress is changing something else. I’m still flabbergasted over clicking on my “posts” button and seeing them all in a reader-type list instead of a list where I can easily find twenty of them and edit them quickly in one click.
Then, was it last week? we had to start going into our dashboard to open a full screen with all the options (including being able to preview our post) in order to write something – instead of this “beep beep boop” crap I keep seeing.
Today, it seems, they’ve changed something else. The “Freshly Pressed” button is gone. Not that I often check the page, but where do I find it now?
Is there anyone out there who has found these changes an improvement? Or am I the only one who thinks they’re more of a pain in the ass?
Edit: My notifications box isn’t lighting up today either. Is anyone else having this problem? Check your notifications just in case!

Deja vu. I had so many problems with them and wrote a lot of posts last year too, asking for help. Resolution: buy your own website, move your present site over (or hire someone to do it) and be in control of your own site. 🙂

I’m so glad you posted this, Linda. I thought it was just me!! That whole post scroll thing with the beep beep book is not only an annoyance, it’s insulting! What a waste of time now trying to figure out the quickest way to get to post lists, etc. not only are my notifications not working properly, but my tags haven’t been working for 3 weeks and no one responded to my query in the “forum” help messaging, so my posts don’t show up if someone searches a tag name.
I write so much in my notebooks, but the difficulties with WP to get things into published format is so time-consuming, it’s excruciating. So I opt for living instead of wrestling with WP snafus.
Thanks for posting what so many bloggers are thinking, and for letting me vent 🙂

I don’t like the changes either. I’m usually ok with changes that are made on various sites, but when I can’t even figure out how to do something as simple as get a list of my tags when I’m making a new post like I used to, then it’s a problem.

That’s the other problem with the beep beep boop thing – absence of a tag list. If you add a post through your dashboard, you’ll see them.

I tend to be the kind of person who rolls with changes, unless they REALLY mess with something that I REALLY like, I’ll stick to quiet grumbling. But I have had some trouble with the notifications — which is very much NOT okay. And I”m sure some of the other changes will start to get to me soon…. sigh.

The tab at the menu bar is missing, but the Freshly Pressed links are still at the same place, the Reader tab at the Reader widget (if I made any sense at all!)
Reader > Freshly Pressed.

What the hell is that. If I click on the beep beep boop, it looks like it takes me to the write a post mode. That’s just weird. I also noticed that when I’m in my reader and click on “view original” to read a post, when I go back to reader, it takes me to the top, instead of back to the post I just read. So I have to then scroll down to find the next post after the one I just read. For someone whose been driving all day long and is trying to catch up, that’s a real pain in the butt.

Yep. I don’t know which browser you use, but in Firefox all I do is right click on the ‘view original’ button and open the link in a new tab so the reader stays in the same place. It’s handy that way. 🙂

It doesn’t light up anymore on the “reader” page, you have to be on your blog, or someone else’s to see it. I looked for the freshly pressed articles yesterday because every now and then I look there for something to read. I have no idea where they’ve hidden it, but I am not going to worry about it. If it ain’t broke, they should stop trying to fix it.

It all changed last week for me. My biggest peeve is the way that they do the gallery for photos. For me to use the format that I want, I need to save my ‘beep beep boop’ post as a draft, go into my dashboard and open the draft and then add my media in that way. Sometimes the mosaic option for the gallery is there and sometimes it isn’t. If it isn’t, I have to go out and try again. That’s my biggest peeve with it.

If you skip the post button altogether and go straight to the dashboard and post from there, you shouldn’t have a problem with your media files. I hope.

beep beep boop = this is their lame way of injecting humour into a humourless situation. My biggest peeve, besides the fact that it ain’t broke, so why are you fixing it is this: would it kill you to post a notice that we might experience a slower than normal response? Yesterday the system was slow. It was aggravating. I get that there will be downtime, but let me know about it and I’ll go wash the floor or take a nap and won’t plug up the system while it’s being overhauled.

One thing I have not figured out, is how to “search” out old posts of mine. Sometimes I get into conversations on social media, where they become relevent (so its easier to share then to type another hundred to 1000+ words of explaination).
One used to be able to use the “search” option in the top screen toolbar (type in a word from the title, or a keyword in the piece).
Now you either get nothing, or a ton of irrelevent stuff from the entirity of the wordpress community.
Maybe im missing something. But this little change (evident fairly recently), is a bit irratating.

Go to your dashboard, hover over posts and click “All Posts.” At the top right hand corner of that page you’ll see a search bar. Type in any word that the post you’re looking for contains, (the more obscure the better) and then hit the search button. All the posts containing that word will come up on the list.
Hope this helps. 🙂

I know – I always think of “improvements” as giving us fewer clicks to have to get around. But it seems with every “improvement” WP makes, they make us do more. I don’t understand.
You can still get the old view of your posts if you go into your dashboard and find the posts button, hover your mouse over it and click “All posts.” Extra steps, but it still exists.
