The piece of wood it’s sitting on is an inch thick…
Unfortunately my phone’s camera didn’t pick up the rainbow of colours in its wings. So big and yet so delicate.

There are so many dragonflies varieties in this part of the world ( Borneo ) They have a book about them! I find them fascinating.

Wow! What a bigee! I was afraid for a long time too…I did not know they ate mosquitoes. I shall appreciate them more now.

That’s huge! We have one that hangs around the house that’s less than half as big. Come to think of it, ours is the first one I’ve seen since moving here. I remember when I was a kid there were a bunch of them flying around the park, and they scared me to death…

Haha! Yeah, I was afraid of them as a child too. As I just mentioned in a comment further down, they dropped a plane-load of them not too far from here a few years ago. The population spread substantially. This is the biggest one I think I’ve ever seen though.

Dragon flies always remind me of summers spent in Winnsboro TX, floating about in a jon boat on my Granddaddy’s pond, trying to catch brim and shoot water moccasins with my .22 rifle…
Ah! Good Times!

They do love the water – and the mosquitoes that hatch in it! Glad I was able to take you back. 🙂

I love dragonflies! The other week I had a beautiful cyan blue one land on my wrist for a few seconds before taking off. And a few days after that, while mowing the lawn, there was a beautiful dragonfly couple that was colored with black and white stripes (one slightly larger than the other) flying around the yard in circles and landing on tree branches before repeating the motions. Their wings look like extremely thin crystal sometimes to me. 🙂

They really do look like something you’d see in a fine china and crystal shop, don’t they? There are some really pretty ones out there.
Thanks for sharing that, Dominika. 🙂

I stumbled upon one a few years ago, it was dead on the sidewalk. I’d never seen one so big, but my husband says he’s seen bigger. It was almost the length of my foot and its body was about the size of a baby carrot. :O
The Deep South grows bugs of an enormous size!

They are kind of scary in their own way. Guess that’s why they are called dragonfly.

Me too! Not this one though. My son actually touched its wing before I took the shot. It flew away right after I took it.
Thanks very much. 🙂

I think he might have been busy eating something, so that’s probably the trick. Catch ’em when they’re dining.
