I’d like to use a counter widget as a gage (not to be confused with a gauge) to keep myself honest in my attempt to write a new novel. Does anyone out there know of a good one? When I participate in NaNoWriMo, I rely heavily on the counter they provide.
Would you like to join in to “Tuesday Use It In A Sentence”? Of course you would! Visit A Word Adventure this week to find out how!

If you explain what this post means, I’ll happily answer your question. ;~}

When we participate in NaNoWriMo we’re given a place to enter our word count. It’s a bar that gets coloured in as we get to our goal. That’s the sort of thing I’m looking for – a visual way of keeping my goal in front of me. Displaying it publicly on my blog adds to the motivation to keep going.

National Novel Writing Month. Every November. It surprises me that you’ve managed to avoid hearing about it this long. 😛

I see posts about it, but they’re always in the middle of something. If I saw the intro post I’d probably get sucked into it.
Writing a whole novel in a month?!

Yep. 50K words. I’ve finished it successfully three times and not-so-successfully once.

You could also challenge people to word wars and other contests. If you go to NaNo’s widgets, they have different versions of the counter you can link to on your blog. In addition, the forums have links to different counters. Sadly, I never saved the posts where people talked about them.

Not sure if I have the energy (nor the time) for another challenge at the moment. Christmas and all. 😛
I actually found the WordPress forum ones, but they all seem inadequate for counting words. I’ll go back to NaNo’s site though. Thanks for the suggestion. 😀
