Friday? Did someone say it’s Friday? Of course it is, and that means it’s time for your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. I feel an obligation to let you all know that I’m realizing I can’t keep up with post-reading. The stress is beginning to affect my health, which means everything and everyone around me is suffering. I’m happy to continue with my prompts, and when I find I have time, I’ll be by to read what you’ve written, but I must stop pretending that I have the energy to promise I’ll get there eventually. To be perfectly honest, I miss reading all the responses every week, so what I can promise is that I’ll try. I hope you can understand, and please, until I get my time/sanity back, visit each other! The success of this prompt depends on the community it builds. 🙂 Now, your prompt:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “if/then.” Begin your post with the word “If.” For bonus points, end your post with a phrase containing the word “then.” Enjoy!
After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!
To make your post more visible, use the SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!
Here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!

Linda – you provide such great prompts and the opportunity to “socialize” – but sometimes life does require us to tune out some of this technology. I often feel guilty about not writing, responding to comments in a timely manner, or finding the time to read all the great bloggers I follow – but I decided that this is supposed to be fun, at times relaxing, and always something I look forward to, so I have decided I will not allow myself to get stressed out anymore. I do what I can when I can – & that’s how it’s supposed to be.
Take care of yourself . . . sending you hugs!!

Linda, I know exactly how you feel, and I think many of us can empathise with you. Please don’t worry, just get yourself feeling better. Thank you for still giving us the prompts and for all the hard work that you do 🙂

I always thought the purpose was for us all to read as many as we can and to get to broaden our blogging horizons. The more successful you are at attracting new participants, the more I would assume people understand you can’t read them all any more than we can. Relax and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Absolutely don’t stress! You’ve created this community and we’ve all benefited hugely, so there’s no way it should be a cause of suffering! I never expect everyone to read, like or comment, and that includes you. I don’t always get to visit everyone because I have lots of commitments, as most of us do. I think most of us try to do that, and that’s the best we can do. Thank you for your prompts, and look after yourself!

If you take care of Linda, enjoy writing for the pleasure, that is the purpose of blogging. So how about chilling, enjoy the 6 weeks we have left of summer and be proud of the community you did create here! Try and not put pressure on visiting all the blogs; when you have an inkling, just drop by for a visit now and then. (chuckles)

I took the liberty of peeking in on you. Take some time away from the keyboard. Prompt responses should still be here when you come back.

When you follow a ton of blogs (like you and I do), it’s easy to get swamped. Don’t worry about it.

“Hey Linda, don’t beat yourself up! You do a phenomenal job with all this,” she said.
“As someone suggested, we can try taking care of ourselves. You first, our scribblings 2nd! Okay?,” she continued.
“And, don’t be afraid to ask for a break, a vacation, time away. Get a guest host or hosts, take it easy and work on your stuff and spend time with family and special friends,” she continued. “I’m off my soap box, preaching at you.” she concluded. “Will just say take good care and Namaste.”

Well Linda – I have seen many bloggers get a bit weighed down from running a popular challenge – and all the more so when you have a writing challenge – whew – maybe you should try and visit monthly – but I like the MO here – to let other bloggers visit and support – anyhow – wishing you a great day – and hopefully you are working on your book too!

With the popularity of SoCS, it’s understandable you would not have time to read everyone’s post. We’ve got to take care of ourselves and our lives outside of WordPress. Thanks for continuing the prompts!

I can’t read every post of everyone I follow, and you have even more than I, so I can imagine it’s even more challenging. I do so appreciate your prompts. Have a restful weekend 🙂
