Before you look at the other comments, tell me the first thing that comes to mind when you read this book title:
The Magician’s Sire.
When I wake up in the morning, I’ll tell you in the comments what it’s for. Also look for the silly alternative title.
Thank you.
If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.
NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.
Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”
The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:
1. Make it one sentence.
2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.
3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.
4. Add our lovely new badge to your post for extra exposure!
5. Have fun!

My first thought, in regards to The Magician’s Sire, is that sire is a synonym for father, so it would be about the magician’s father.

First thing I thought, that doesn’t mean anything, because “Sire” is the title which you use speaking to a King, so the Magician’s King ?? Normally it would be the other way around the King has a magician or rather a fool (not anymore) at least not our king he has a lot of fools (in the government) !

The Magician’s Don? More like a godfather (with a horse) than a dad.
I know, that’s no help.

My mind immediately went to vampires. Aren’t the sires the ones that turn them into vampires?

Okay, so at least I got the gist of where you were heading. “Sire” does make me think of “sired by” (if that’s even a phrase). I’ll let you know if inspiration strikes.

Having checked my thesaurus, I have three possibilities. The Magician’s Folks (if you want prosaic term for parents in one syllable)
The Magician’s Roots (as in finding one’s roots)
The Magician’s Source (which speaks to whence he came)
I feel like I’m writing haiku or tanka where, with so few syllables, one has to pack as much meaning in each as possible.

“Source” is definitely worth consideration. Thanks, Joanne! 🙂

How about ‘The Magician’s Mould’? As in the place where he was formed, where he began? It’s not perfect, but at least it’s one syllable! 🙂

I actually thought of that one. But like “sire,” it has another meaning, even though the spelling is different in British English. In American, it’s “mold” either way. 😛

I wondered if many people would come up with “horse.” Thanks for confirming it. It’s actually what I didn’t want, though. 😛
The prequel I’m planning to write for my series is about the magician’s parents, before he’s even a glint in his daddy’s eye. I hoped to keep the title in line with the rest of the books: The Magician’s Curse, The Magician’s Blood, and The Magician’s Soul.
But I’m having a hard time coming up with a title. It would be nice to keep the third word to one syllable, but The Magician’s Dad just doesn’t quite cut it.
The silly working title I have for it, seeing as it’s the prequel to The Magician’s Curse is The Magician’s Precursor.
I may just end up going with something completely different. Suggestions are welcome. 🙂
