What Day is it Anyway? Monday, July 6th, 2020

My day today so far–3:15pm:

I started the day once again with a stroll around the block with Alex. We only went out for about 40 minutes: we were back home by 7am. And here I was thinking the lack of summer camp would mean I could sleep in. HA! It’s great to get the exercise in when we can, though. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 30C (88F) by 8am, so no walk tomorrow.

At 11:00 I went to Best Buy to get Alex’s laptop fixed. The frame around the screen is coming off. It’s under warranty, so no problem with cost. But I had to wait outside in the sun for 30 minutes to get in. The man behind me was yelling at the poor girl at the door because more people were coming out than going in. They were only allowing 10 customers inside at once. The first time he complained that five people had come out but she’d only let one in, she told him thanks for letting her know. After that, she ignored him for the most part. The sixth person who came out–a woman with tattoos who was taking no shit–told him she had waited patiently for her turn when he told her it was okay for her to talk, she’d already been into the store. I felt so sorry for the girl at the door.

When I got to the front of the line and told her I was just there for the Geek Squad, she had to put me into another line, facing the one I’d been in, so facing the man who’d been behind me. He actually apologized to her, saying he understood but it was hot outside. Which was fine, until someone else came out of the store and she didn’t let him in right away. Of course, he started complaining again. I hope she did it on purpose.

I thanked her on the way out of the store. The crap people have to put up with from the entitled will never cease to boggle my mind.

My best friend, John, showed up as I got home to install another air conditioning unit in my upstairs bathroom window. That will make it nicer for sleeping. But to solve my issue of not being able to brain in the heat while trying to work, I emptied out my spare bedroom and cleaned off the desk so I can work downstairs. The room is on the north- and west-facing corner of the house and is surrounded by trees, so it’s nice and cool in here. I’m sitting on a broken office chair, but the seat is fine. I planned to try to keep this space wi-fi free, but I’ve broken that rule already writing this. AFTER this, though, no more wi-fi. I swear.

A week ago, I couldn’t even get into the room. It was (and still is, to an extent) the junk drawer of rooms. The bed is full of bags of my mother’s belongings that I moved out of the retirement home. Which might be just as well. I’m not tempted to lay down for a nap … That crack of dawn walk was a bit much.

Why I’m writing this post:

Because if you’re like me and stuck at home already, or if you’re going to be like me soon, the days of the week are hell to keep track of. We have a wonderful community here on WordPress and all over the Internet as well, and I’m sure many people are feeling nervous and/or isolated. I want to make sure every one of us has somewhere to congregate and someone to talk to.

I want everyone to know that you can start discussions with each other in the comments, and if you’d like to write your own “What Day is it Anyway?” post, you can link to this one. Hashtag #WDIIA.

Let’s keep in touch!
