This post is part of Just Jot it January, and our prompt of the day is from Di. Check out her blog here!
There was a time when my favorite thing to do to escape the world was reading. It still is right up there, but lately I’ve been reading more for research and work than for pleasure.
So about a year ago, when I was looking for something else to pass the time, I started knitting again.
I love creating things. It’s one of the reasons I love to write, though that, too, has become a job. Not that I don’t enjoy it still, but it’s gone beyond a pastime and into something I have to do.
So yeah, knitting. If they weren’t so expensive, I’d make blankets for all of you.
This knitty post is part of Just Jot it January! Want to join in? Just click here to get to the prompt and drop your link. It’s fun!
Thanks so much again to Di for the prompt!

I can knit a little, but not enough to create a beautiful blanket, a friend crocheted me a lovely blanket, I love it, it is so warm and cozy. Xx

Nothing better than a homemade blanket on a cold winter’s night. 🙂

I’ve crocheted for years, but cannot knit for the life of me. I love having a good audio book to listen to while I crochet….now if I could figure out how to read, write, and crochet all at the same time…..

Haha! Right?
I agree – audiobooks are awesome when you’re creating something with your hands. 🙂

I’m better at crochet than knitting… managing one crochet hook and ball of one yarn just seems slightly less complicated for me than wielding two knitting pins and one yarn!

I’ve crocheted in the past, but I find I have to watch what I’m doing more. With knitting, the two needles (to me) do a better job of controlling the yarn, so I can knit and binge watch a show at the same time. 😀
I think it’s all about what you get used to.

My current pastime is also knitting. But I like keeping to socks. Everything else is too big or too involved. And it is certainly not something that they could pay you enough to make it worth the time and energy. It is in itself a pleasure as long as it doesn’t include a paycheck. Unfortunately, it isn’t a cheap hobby. Still, that soft yarn relaxes me and helps me focus.

It’s all worth it for the relaxation, isn’t it? I’m thinking I may start making baby blankets if they’re still taking donations in the maternity ward at the hospital. I did those for a long time when Alex was stuck at the hospital as a baby.
Socks are wonderful to knit! 😀

Absolutely the most relaxing, a meditation that produces! Baby Blankets! Great idea! I might try that, too as the weight might not be too heavy. Soft yarn for babies. I like the idea of knitting for the hospital. I’ll look into that.

You could do hats and booties for newborns too, if they accept them. ❤

This is what the bylaws say about replacement on board. As I read this I think they have to be voted on at this year’s annual meeting.
REPLACEMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICERS
Vacancies of non-officer Board members may be filled until the next regular annual membership meeting by current UUFSMA members with majority vote of the Board. Vacancies in Board officer positions (President, 1st and 2nd Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary) may be filled until the next regular annual membership meeting by current Board members with majority vote of the Board.

It’s the thought that counts so thank you for the blanket. I loved to knit too but now my hands get tired

You’re welcome, Sadje. ❤ 🙂
And I'm sorry. That's one of the reasons I'm knitting so furiously now—anticipation of not being able to.

I can knit, but not a fan, much prefer crochet as it grows faster! I’ve made several blankets and my neighbour from years ago said I should become a cottage industry. When I told her each square took me 2 hours to make, and there were 120 squares in the smallest blanket I made (for a single bed), I said it wasn’t practical, even on the minimum wage!
Thanks for the links and using my prompt.

It’s very time-consuming. I’ve managed to knit five afghans in the last year, working on them almost every day. Right about on par with what I can do with novel writing if I put my mind to it! 😀

Sadly I can’t hold a crochet hook now and even holding a pen for writing letters to our friends proves painful sometimes.

Yeah, I used to crochet but I don’t think I could hold a hook for long anymore. Then there’s my eyes… 😛 Sucks getting older, doesn’t it?
