So I can write a novel of 50,000 words. I’ve even written one of 300,000 words.
But to create a tagline for one of those novels?
To boil the story down in a nutshell?
So very hard.
It’s easier to write the novel.

I always want to use ALL the words…so staying short and concise is really, really hard!

Taglines, blurbs, synopses…. SO HARD! Titles are pretty easy for me to come up with. They aren’t always GOOD titles, but I come up with them.

Titles are hardest for me…but that’s just a post. Never have I ever written a book.

Book titles are definitely the second-hardest part for me. And yet I find blog post titles easy. Go figure!
By the way, there are still two spots left on the prompt-me post if you want to get your word in. 🙂 https://lindaghill.com/2024/01/17/prompt-me-part-2-of-2-jusjojan-2024/

What I really need to do is learn to make a habit of writing the tagline before I write the novel. I’m sure that would make it easier.

It absolutely would, Linda. The only thing after that would be sticking to the tagline! (I would definitely go off-piste!) 😄

I mean seriously. How do you condense a whole novel into a sentence? Ugh. 😛

It’s like writing a logline for a TV show or movie. I think Blake Snyder’s “Save The Cat!” or Syd Fields’s “Screenplay” have some examples.

I’ve been meaning to buy “Save the Cat!” – maybe it’s time I did. 🙂 Thanks, John!

The tagline – the blurb — Auuuuugh, they both scare me.
