It used to be, way back when I rode horses every week, people knew better than to start talking to me about them.

Luckily, I had a job as a trail guide, so if given the opportunity, I could talk the ears off whomever I was riding with.

Me and Shadow, circa … I’m going to say 1985

When I moved away from my job, and Shadow eventually went to the great glue factory in the sky, I stopped riding altogether.

It became increasingly unlikely that anyone would ask me about riding or horses, so for a while, I had nothing to “go on about.”

Then I got an editing job with a story that included a ranch with horses.

I got my mojo back.

And probably over-explained a lot.

But it was a nice opportunity to get me started for a while.

two horse thoughts…when I was a young kid my parents would take me to the local Edmonton rodeo, one year I got sicker the heck….turns out took I think 4 rodeos to find out I have allergies!..the only thing I remember about two of them was little joe and hoss..if you’re old enough to remember a show bonanza you might know who I’m talking about….way later in life we used to sneak into the barns near our horse race track…looking back I have no idea how we got in…no one said anything, no one challenged us…lots of big big horses…and yes, I spent the rest of the day in bed sick as a dog, but it was worth

What a cool job that must have been. Being horse crazy myself when I was younger it would have been a dream job. Glad you had the experience of it and you have some wonderful memories. Shadow was a beauty! 🙂
