One-Liner Wednesday – The kicker

The leak in my son’s bedroom ceiling on the weekend was the kicker—I need a new roof on my house. Ugh.

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

Ouch about the roof. Will it be a complete strip and retile?
We had a gable that leaked and had a company come and quote. Our options were to fix the gable or take it out completely and reduce the risk of the gullies failing again. The difference in cost was about £100, and they took some tiles off the back of the house to match those at the front, then did a good match on the back with some lead sheeting to fill out the size differential. It was a good job and solved the problem completely.

So happy to hear you got your problem solved. Mine should be too after this—they’re guaranteeing it for 50 years. But yeah, that’s for a complete strip down to the plywood and insulating and reshingling. Patching any holes is extra.

Bummer, and not cheap either for the complete job but you are getting a brilliant guarantee.
I used to work for a building company and invoiced various house construction companies. for materials used. I left in 1981, but came back to help my old boss out for a week a couple of years later, and had to arrange a strip and retile on 20 properties as the wrong ones had been delivered and fitted to the wrong construction site for the wrong property style and the wrong company!

Sorry to hear about the roof, especially after such a short time. I hope you get a good contractor and a decent price.

We finally switched to a metal roof on our house. They last much longer but are pricier to begin with, which is an issue.
