It’s publication day for The Magician’s Blood! The second book of The Great Dagmaru Gothic paranormal romance series is a fair shade darker than the first, The Magician’s Curse.
The magician, Stephen, and his lovely assistant, Herman, are heading off on tour after their difficult beginning. But surprises await them as her father makes a prediction and Stephen’s incubus bloodline makes itself known for the first time in generations. Can Stephen and Herman’s love endure?
“… I could not put this book down! Much like the curse that holds Stephen Dagmar under its control, I tore into this book, reading into the wee hours …” ~ Colleen Chesebro (read her full 5 star review here on her blog).

The Magician’s Blood has been a very long time coming. My own blood, sweat, and tears have gone into it … much of the sweat over the editing of it, and what should stay in and what should be edited out. In the end I’m still sweating, hoping you’re going to enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it.
And finally, please share this post! Help me get the word out by sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, and all the other social media you use, as well as reblogging it.

When a young woman falls in love with a mysterious stage magician, their passion collides with a dark family secret… Spellbinding romance awaits in this entertaining gothic tale!
I had to go to sleep behalf way through, but got back to it after work and finished it. Good story. Interesting dilemma for an honest man in love. Looking forward to the second in the series. ~ 5 Stars – Loves to read and review, Amazon.com
This book was great. From the wonderful characters, to the amazingly believable unbelievable story line. Confused? Well, although we all know magic isn’t real, the author makes it all make sense. This story about a young woman, Herman, and the man she meets. He is trying to break a curse that was placed on his family. i feel like i would be giving away spoilers by continuing. So, just read the book and you won’t be disappointed. The only complaint i have is I wanted to continue reading the next story now. ~ 4 Stars – hlee, Amazon.com
I must say Ms. Hill writes a very engaging story about two very interesting characters who meet and fall in love. I normally do not read books with younger characters, but this talented author had me hooked from the very beginning. I love mystery with a darker side and truly enjoyed The Magician’s Curse. I eagerly await more from Ms. Hill. Hope she is a fast writer! ~ 5 Stars – Lorey Frazher, Amazon.com

There will be a couple of other posts on this subject over the next few days, but this one is for my regular readers, just to explain what kind of crazy (and exciting!) week it’s been for me. To explain why The Magician’s Curse is free for the rest of the month and maybe a bit beyond. I never really wanted it to be free, but I figured it was my best chance …
You see, I decided, just on a whim, to submit The Magician’s Curse to *BookBub as a Featured Deal. Total long shot, as they receive hundreds of submissions a day. It’s like winning the lottery. … AND I WON!! On July 24th, an e-mail will go out to roughly 870,000(!!!) subscribers to let them know my book exists and that it’s free!!!
This is HUGE for me (said Captain Obvious), so it was important that I get the second book in the series ready to go. And that’s what I’ve been doing for the past week.
If you haven’t read it yet, now is the time to get it. It will go back up to full price after the BookBub Feature, but it may stay on sale for a while longer if another submission comes through for me of a similar type, but exclusively through KOBO.
And finally, my other exciting news: the second book in The Great Dagmaru series is available for pre-order! My darling friend, Belinda Borradaile, (click on her name and follow her amazing FB page) really outdid herself with the new cover. Isn’t it gorgeous?
The Magician’s Blood is at the special low pre-order price of $2.99 until its release on August 10th. After that, the price will go up to $4.99, so be sure to pick it up early! (Click here.)

This one is NOT a Young Adult book, as many readers seemed to think The Magician’s Curse was meant to be. So be forewarned.
Just a quick note about BookBub, in case you want to subscribe: I mentioned BookBub in another post here. Once you subscribe, you let them know what your favourite genres are and then they send you e-mails on a daily basis to alert you when there’s a sale on. You can also follow your favourite authors, so you’ll know right away when there’s a new release … your favourite authors like me … (click here if I’m not being obvious enough). 😉
Obviously, I won’t be sleeping much until this Tuesday and probably beyond. Knowing that I can expect (re: BookBub’s average download count for my genre) 22,600 copies of my book to fly off the virtual shelf tends to come with a prerequisite hourly SQUEE!!
Hosted by the lovely Anne Cater, my blog tour kicked off yesterday with a somewhat rough beginning. The first blogger on the tour, whose name happens to be Linda, didn’t review The Magician’s Curse because, I’m assuming, she wasn’t enjoying it. Which is fair–not everyone will. Yet she was kind enough to stick to her promise and promote it with a spotlight anyway. You can find her blog post here. Thank you, Linda!
Then today, the blogger who was supposed to review my book disappeared! I swear it had nothing to do with the magic in my book. Stephen Dagmar simply wouldn’t play that sort of a trick. However, another kind soul who is associated with Anne picked up the spot and promoted my book. Her name is Ali, and you can find her blog here. Thanks so much, Ali!
Which brings us to tomorrow; I’m almost afraid to say there will be a review of my book. Is Mercury in retrograde by any chance?
Please stop by and see what happens!
Oh, and by the way, The Magician’s Curse is on sale. From now until the end of my blog tour on May 9th, you can pick up the e-book for a special low price of 99¢ at Amazon US, Amazon Canada, Amazon UK, Amazon Australia, and Kobo.
I’m so happy to announce my new review on NetGalley. Not only is it a five-star review, it’s from the incredibly talented author, Carrie Rubin!
Here’s what she says about The Magician’s Curse on Amazon, Goodreads, and NetGalley:
A magician with special powers struggles with a curse that’s been in his family for generations. The main character, an almost 18-year-old girl who falls in love with him, has her own life turned upside down as she navigates his strange world.
It’s more romance-heavy than I typically read, but the unveiling of the mysterious magician’s story kept me turning the pages. The plot is well-paced and the characters are engaging. The book comes to a satisfying conclusion but also sets up the stage for book two. All in all an enjoyable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for a free copy.
Thank you so much, Carrie for your enthusiastic review.
If you’d like to pick up my *award-winning novel, The Magician’s Curse, for free, it’s available until the end of the month on NetGalley. Please enjoy it!
I had a breakthrough! Chapter One of The Magician’s Blood, Book Two of my series, has been giving me trouble, but I think I’ve finally got it. A beginning!
Herman Anderson stood up before the train came to a stop. Tapping her foot and tightly clutching the shoulder strap of her backpack that rested on the seat she’d vacated, she felt a hand gently enclose hers. She relaxed a fraction. She looked down into the eyes of her lover, Stephen Dagmar, and her muscles gave in a fraction more to the comfort of his touch.
“I know what you’re going to say,” she said with a sigh.
He raised one perfect black eyebrow. “That no matter what you find when you get home, we’ll deal with it?”
“And …”
“You’re not going to get off this train before they open the doors?”
“And …”
“That I love you?” He smiled then, and the rest of her nerves ceased their vibration.
“I love you too.”
She squeezed his hand to steady herself as the train finally came to a grinding halt at the Ottawa Via Rail station.
I’m aiming to publish on May 27th, eleven months from the publication date of the first book. Remember, if you want to read Book One now for free, it’s on NetGalley.com.
Are you a member of NetGalley? My paranormal romance novel, The Magician’s Curse, is available for the month of April to all members.
The Magician’s Curse begins the story of Stephen Dagmar, stage magician and cambion–descendant of an incubus–and his assistant, Herman Anderson. Here’s the blurb:
When Herman Anderson leaves home to make a better life for herself, she doesn’t expect to meet a tall, dark stranger with whom she’ll fall hopelessly in love.
Charming and mysterious, Stephen Dagmar is a stage magician seeking an assistant. The moment he sets eyes on Herman, he knows she’s the one. He brings her home to his Victorian mansion where they embark upon an extravagant romance. Yet a shadow hangs over their love. Will the curse on his family end Stephen and Herman’s happily ever after, before it really begins?
Amidst lace and leather, innocence and debauchery, The Magician’s Curse begins the Gothic tale of The Great Dagmaru. Magic and romance await.
The appearance on NetGalley of The Magician’s Curse, Book One of “The Great Dagmaru” series, is designed to lead up to the release of the second book, The Magician’s Blood. This is your chance to read (and review) the first book for free!
