#SoCS – Turning the page

I think what I miss most when I’m reading an ebook is the act of physically turning the paper page. There’s a certain anticipation that comes with the extra second it takes, compared to swiping a screen to get to the next screen’s-worth of text.

Is it just me?

And then there’s the fact that a paper page isn’t backlit. Much more restful for the eyes. My eyes have been bugging me all day.

I told my son this morning that getting too much sleep sucks for me now that I’m not used to it. It’s like drinking too much–both sleeping and drinking are lovely at the time, but I inadvertently wake up with a headache. Mine has been kind of in the background all day (because I slept 8 hours, not because I was drinking), and it’s bugging my eyes.

Wouldn’t it be nice if when we typed, the words could show up on a paper page instead? Yeah, I know. That’s been invented and it’s called a typewriter, but what if those words on the page could go out instantaneously to the world like it does on the screen?

What if I could type a page of text and hit the return button and you could read it?

Without waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

Hmm.

Somebody invent that, would you?

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 5, 2022

It’s Friday! And I’m here with your regular Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. It feels like ages since we’ve had just a plain ol’ SoCS prompt with no JusJoJan and no special Christmas thing, doesn’t it? Here’s your plain ol’ prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “page.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here to this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!

To make your post more visible, use our beautiful SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley! https://www.quaintrevival.com/

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a particular subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

SoCS & JusJoJan the 29th – Oh, the eyeballs

No word of a lie, I’ve spent twelve hours today sitting at my computer, formatting the three books in The Great Dagmaru Series into a boxed set.

I just couldn’t let go until it was done.

But it’s done, and it’ll be on sale next week.

I just hope it looks good, because my eyeballs are really to fall out.

I mean, this only took about an hour

to create. Who’da thunk the 980 pages on the inside would have taken so long to figure out? I roomful of monkeys with typewriters coulda done it!

(In case you’re wondering, it’ll just be an ebook. Not a cool set of paperbacks in a box, because that would cost a fortune.)

Anywho, this was all prompted by the fact that the series (and the third book, The Magician’s Soul) is up for a Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewer’s Choice Award. The voting doesn’t start until Wednesday, so I’ll post about it again then with a link to vote. This will be the last chance to win for this series, so fingers crossed.

So my feet are going numb now.

I think that’s a sign to get up off my chair and move around a bit.

Time to let go of the keyboard.

SoCS & JusJoJan the 22nd – the icing on the cake

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much to everyone who wished me a happy birthday today.

It was a lovely birthday, all said and done, thanks to Alex and his teacher at school.

He had his cooking exam last week, so he cooked me a wonderful dinner in class on Friday of roasted chicken and potatoes and vegetables, which he served to me tonight.

The cake he baked in class on Thursday, and yes, there was extremely sweet icing on the cake.

I’d say he passed his exam with flying colours!

I’m going to miss having him go to school next year, now that he’s aged out.

And the t-shirt he gave me! “World’s Best Mom” in his own handwriting. It made me cry.

I think I might adopt his teacher.

SoCS & JusJoJan the 8th – In the …

In the attempt to do all the things today, I still missed the thing that is blogging.

Until now, but it’s officially Sunday, and no longer today.

Today meaning Saturday … it is no longer.

I almost forgot to schedule the prompt for tomorrow!

Which is technically today.

Because today is Sunday, and today will have a new prompt.

Which I almost forgot.

In the attempt to blog today (which is not today) it seems I have forgotten how words work.

For this is a very odd post indeed.

And forgetting how words work on a day that I am sure is not today but tomorrow, is par for the course.

Because as you know, I am the one who asks …

What day is it anyway?

Most days.

Okay, kids are calling me.

Good night!

SoCS & JusJoJan the 1st – Resolve

I know what you’re thinking.

Is that actually Linda? Like, writing a real post? On her blog?

And the answer is yes. ‘Tis me. The great and powerful LindOz.

Who we all know was never great nor powerful at all.

Ah, I’ve missed stream of consciousness writing. Can’t delete it now. It’s the rule.

So I’m resolving to do my best to participate in JusJoJan every day. My posts might all be stream of consciousness, for the simple reason that it means I don’t have to plan what I’m going to write.

Because planning what I’m going to write makes my brain ache these days. Since November 1st, I’ve written more than 90K words, and I don’t plan to slow down much.

Aside from my resolve to post this month, my resolve for the year is to publish at least three books, plus a weekly serial I’m writing under a secret pen name. 5K words on each of 52 weeks. I’ve written almost half of it, but I plan to write at least three quarters of it before I start publishing.

Is all this an actual resolution? Like, a new year’s resolution?

I suppose by definition it is.

But I’m almost superstitious about those. I don’t think I’ve ever actually followed through with one.

So let’s not call it that.

M’kay?

M’kay.
