The Friday Reminder and Prompt for SoCS August 2/14

One of the biggest challenges in coming up with the Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is finding something everyone can have in common. And yet there are so many things that transcend borders, cultures, abilities and environment that sometimes it’s hard to choose just one. Today I had so many ideas coming at me that I’ve written some down for future prompts. Here is the one I picked for tomorrow’s post:

Your Friday prompt for Saturday’s Stream of Consciousness post is “hear/here.” Be creative!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at the prompt page in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Don’t hesitate to join in!

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” or “Begin with the word ‘The’.”

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people will come and read your post! The way to ping back, is to just copy and paste the URL of my post somewhere on your post. Then your URL will show up in my comments, for everyone to see. For example, in your post you can copy and paste the following: This post is part of SoCS: https://lindaghill.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-august-214/  The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. Have fun!

  2. I came to the post via Suzy’s wonderful stream of consciousness post about musical memories. There are many more that I hope to visit (although will probably have to take my time. The last stream of consciousness challenge that I took on was in response to Writing 101. I’m afraid that I seem to have missed out (timing-wise) on this Saturday’s challenge. Are there any rules on timing, Linda? Does it have to be on a Saturday? Hope you are well and enjoying a wonderful start to the week.

    • Thanks, Vic, I hope you’re enjoying your week so far too. 🙂
The timing doesn’t matter to me, but the sooner your ping back shows up the more likely it is that other people joining in will click on your link. If you can do it on the Friday, after I post the prompt, then you might be the first on the list. Otherwise, if it’s very late in the week, you might be better to copy your link into the following Friday’s prompt post.
Wow, that sounds confusing to me.
So, for instance, if you write a post for the current prompt tomorrow, ping back to this post but remember also to put a link in the comments for this coming Friday’s prompt post.
I hope that makes sense! And I hope you can join in!! 🙂

      • Oh, thank you for letting me know, Linda. And your explanation made sense to begin with, no worries there. I wanted to join this challenge in particular, precisely because I am not a stream of consciousness writer as such and thought it would be good to put my skills to the test as well as getting additional feedback from other writers who attempted it.
Will follow your advice and write the post, then add it to this coming Friday’s post for additional feedback. That will be very helpful. 🙂 Thank you.

  23. Hi Linda…great prompt, although I’m not sure I’ll be doing SOCS this week. I got some bad news on Wednesday and am not sure I’m up for writing this week but plan read this week’s SOCS posts; that’ll help keep my mind off other things. But I like the hear/here prompt a lot…nice pick, and I look forward to reading everyone’s entries on it.

I hope that many people will join in Linda’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Everything you need to know to participate is in this post which I am re-blogging. It is super fun!

I may not get to participate this week. Both of my parents are in the hospital and I need to put together a post on that, which, believe me, no one would want to read in a stream of consciousness style. Editing will definitely be required.

    • Thanks for the re-blog.
I hope your parents are okay and it’s nothing serious! I’ll be thinking of you this weekend, Joanne.

    • Came on to make a similar comment, about some issues that will likely prevent me from doing SOCS this week, when I saw your comment. I wanted to say that I hope your parents improve quickly and can leave the hospital soon. I’ll be thinking of you and looking out for an update whenever you can do it…good luck with everything.
