Friday’s here and so is your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. It’s been a tough day for coffee already, and it’s only 8:30. First, I turned on the coffee maker and realized 5 minutes later I’d forgotten to prepare the coffee last night. Then I made it and the filter collapsed. So now I’m waiting for my McDonald’s breakfast to be delivered. Yes, they deliver when your best friend has a car and he got off work early too.
Oh, and by the way, this is the closest we’re going to get to the two year anniversary of SoCS! I started it on March 1st, 2014. Congrats to all of those who’ve been with me since the beginning! Anyway, on with the prompt:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “food.” Make food the theme of your post. Have fun!
After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!
To make your post more visible, use the SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!
Here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!

Um, hi. How do I make a widget? I’d love the badge on my website! Plus, I have really enjoyed writing this prompt and this theme on Food. Good for my belly and the soul.

Hi! Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. It actually took me a while to figure out how to add a widget myself – I think they’ve changed the procedure. Anyway, here’s your answer:
Go to your dashboard (the old one is the one I work with – you’ll find it at the bottom of your “my sites” page under “WP admin”).
Then find “media” and add the picture you want, if you haven’t already. (If you’ve already added it to your media library, you can skip this step.)
Next you need the “appearance” tab and under that, “widgets.” It may ask you where you want the widget, depending on the theme you’re using. Once you decide that, click “add.”
You can title your picture or not – it’s up to you. You’ll find your “image url” in your media library, so now you have to go back there (or go there if you skipped that step above) and find the picture you want. When you click it, your “image url” will show up to the right of the picture. Copy that, and go back to your widget set-up and paste it in place.
Save it, and you’re all done! Easy! (she says sarcastically…) 😛
Glad you enjoyed the prompt! 😀

Thank you for replying to me. I kind of skimmed over it, read it a few times. But it’s okay, I know if it’s really important, I’ll get it eventually.

Hi Linda I’ve just started following your blog and would love to join in. How long do we have to write the stories? I’m in the UK so not sure of the time difference. Thanks Mary
