I missed the last couple of steps coming down the stairs tonight with my laptop balanced on one arm and Alex’s feeding pump in the other hand. Guess what went flying?
I’m actually flabbergasted that it still works. The hinges are broken–it’s pushed almost flat–and the screen has come away from the case … I have a picture.
I’ll take it to Best Buy tomorrow to see if they can snap everything back into place, but I’m not holding my breath. So if you don’t see me around, you’ll know where I am …

I’m still using it, it’s still broken and extremely rickety, but I’m loath to take it in. The problem is the hinge–it’s fucked up so bad that the laptop is sitting on the casing of the lid when I’m using it, and the frame around the screen is bent all out of shape. And the panel that the keyboard sits in is loose too – I have to squeeze it back together to get the power plug in. I can’t see how they can possibly fix it. So unless I have accidents covered on my warranty, it’s toast. If they do fix it, I have to hope I can get a lender. Or I’ll have to go back to my old laptop which takes fifteen minutes to do what this one can in fifteen seconds.
Ugh. Stupid, stupid mistake.

Not that it is any consolation but at least I am not the only one who has things happen like that – usually trying to do too much at one time as well. Good luck on getting things back into place.

Better the laptop than you with broken hinges! I missed a step a couple of years ago and broke my knee. Not fun.

Ouch! If that might have been the case, I’m glad it was the laptop!

I hope that goes back together. Being in IT, I have seen so many of these from my coworkers. Usually, if it’s still working, you’re ahead of the game.

Oh no. Bad news about the laptop. Hope you can get it sorted. But at least you didn’t end up with injuries that put you out of action.
