Just Jot It January a new way

28 Comments

I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out how I can make Just Jot It January work in 2021, because I know I’ll be busy with my novel. Like, extremely busy.

If you’re familiar with the prompt, you know for the last few years I’ve requested prompts from other bloggers and I’ve posted the prompt itself separately from my own JusJoJan entry. I really enjoy doing it that way, but it’s simply not realistic this next year. It’s way too time consuming, plus, I feel like I need to write my own post on the actual day of the prompt so I can provide content that’s relevant.

So here’s what I propose to do this year: fiction.

Every day in January except for Wednesdays, when you’ll still get your One-Liner Wednesday, and Saturday (SoCS) I’ll post either a stand-alone short story or an episode of a serialized one. The story will have a one-word title that you can use for your prompt, and it will be posted at 2am EST, so unless you’re on the other side of the world, you’ll have all day to write your own JusJoJan post. Yours does NOT have to be fiction–it can be anything, and you can use the prompt word or not.

However, I’m not going to leave you out of this completely.

What I’d love from you is something to prompt me on what to write. In the comments, give me any or all of the following:

1. A name (It can be your own, but all I can promise is that I won’t kill you in my story. You may end up being any kind of character, possibly not even human.);

2. A setting;

3. A situation or a “what if.”

I may not use all of the suggestions I’m given, but if I do use your suggestion, I’ll try to link back to you in some way.

I’ll start writing my stories over the Christmas holidays and schedule them to show up in January.

Keep an eye out for the official Just Jot it January rules post for this year.

Aaaand, prompt me!

    Caroline is walking her doggo in the woods as usual when doggo trots back to her with something muddy but glittering in her mouth. What if it’s a lost treasure?

    I’ll pass on the name, but I’m picturing a dirt road ending in a dark forest.

    How about Dr. Sams or nurse Sams where they have finally got a vaccine for Covid at their hospital but they don’t want anyone getting well so they contaminate it.

    How about Brayden for the name, on a crab ship as the setting, and what if a freak storm sent them into another dimension?

    Petra as a name, wine cellar as a setting, and ‘getting caught’ as your what if. Any good?

    “Damn Skippy”. I’ve been watching military stories and it seems an often used term.😂Merry Christmas, Linda. Dont get too bogged down this year, January is supposed to give us a relief from 2020🥰

    If you are looking for a name, you could go with any one of Frank Zappa’s children, Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet or Diva Muffin.
    A setting that might work well, would be Wonderland where Alice went.
    I think that a costume party would make an interesting situation.

        I had another idea, but it may be a bit morbid. Anyway, I thought that everybody could be required to write a eulogy for a fellow blogger and it would be great if you could match up the bloggers with the person that they are supposed to eulogize because you would know the participants. If it ends up being an odd number of people then one of the bloggers could do your eulogy. I feel this would be a great way for all of us to get to know each other better. This will probably work best if you tell everyone that this is a funny eulogy as that would make it less gloomy. I also think this would work best if this prompt was used as the finale for Just Jot It January. PS. If you do not click on the like button on any of my comments, then I have no idea that you responded.

    Olive is the name, a circus or a carnival is the setting, what if there was a streak of some kind across the sky.
