#SoCS – I don’t believe it

I have to preface this by saying I’ve never actually tried it.

Or maybe I have, but if so, I was too young to remember it now.

But I refuse to believe that a spoonful of sugar would help the medicine go down.

I’m, like, imagining popping a Tylenol into my mouth and trying to wash it down with sugar.

It would be so … dry!

Don’t you think?

Either way, not helpful in the slightest.

Lol. Well, I doubt a spoon of sugar is going to do much to help the medicine go down! xoxo

For the longest time when I was young, I had to take Cod Liver Oil – liquid – nasty. My mother followed the spoonful of medicine with some sugary candy. It didn’t help it go down, but it helped remove the awful taste.

I guess I always imagined nasty tasting liquid medicine, then putting sugar in my mouth to ‘wash’ the taste away. Or sucking on a sugar cube like a hard candy….yum! (now I want something sweet….)

Hi Linda, I’ve not heard of this before- sugar with medicine but it may have worked for bitter medicines. I remember putting a spoonful of sugar into my mouth as a child, after eating something spicy.

Not a spoonful of sugar, but I often take my chemo meds with applesauce. It makes my stomach happy.

I think when we were kids, a tablet would be crushed and mixed with sugar to make it more palatable and then given to us. 🥰

Children’s medicine is usually sweet. Maybe, hopefully, they don’t contain actual granulated white sugar. But why are adults forced to take horse pills?

Yep I think I might have had something sweet after medicine to take the taste away but it was never literally a spoonful of sugar lol

Ew! That reminds me of the “cinnamon challenge” somehow. In case you’re not aware, that’s a challenge to consume a spoonful of cinnamon without drinking water. And, though I haven’t tried it myself, I know it could be deadly.

It wouldn’t be the most delightful way, that’s for sure.
