In all honesty, I have to say I don’t believe Candy Crush Saga is a procrastination tool. It’s a way for me to escape my story for a few minutes and do something mindless that allows my imagination to wander.
When I’m not hungry but I get up to get myself something to eat anyway, that’s procrastination. Candy Crush Saga keeps me in my chair.
When I check my WordPress stats or my email, that’s procrastination. Candy Crush Saga takes far less time than that, especially if I have comments on my blog.
When I post a new blog to ask other people what they do to procrastinate, that’s procrastination.
So, how do you procrastinate?
Oh look, I have a new life on Candy Crush Saga! Gotta go.

Usually I stop to read things. I’m terrible when I’m cleaning because I’ll pick up a book that fell behind the couch or was pushed under the bed and I’ll stop and sit down to read it. I’ve been that way since I was a kid. Even just logging into WordPress to do my daily post can easily distract me when I see the blogs I follow have updated. Kinda like this one…

Hehe. You’re the second person I’ve distracted. Go me!
I was the same way for a long time with blogs. That was right about the time I asked you to set yours up so I could follow it by email. I still don’t always get to my emails, but at least I’m staying away from the reader more often.

Hey, Candy Crush is only a short distraction for me because I’m stuck on the same level and bomb out really early 😉

I was on my way to start my daily workout and looked over and saw this post. I heard it calling my name, so naturally I had to read it. So, at this point what is causing me to procrastinate is your post. Thanks. 🙂 It’s so funny that you mentioned eating when you’re not hungry as a form of procrastination. I do the same thing! I also eat when I’m sleepy, to prevent myself from napping.

Yeah, I do the same thing. But then I end up eating something that gives me a sugar rush, which makes me even more sleepy fifteen minutes later. 😛
And you’re welcome 😀

For me, it’s finding new music. And with each album clocking in at an average 40 minutes, it’s far worse than television. Then I say that I’m do research, because more than one scene has been improved by a solid soundtrack. That leads all over the place as I try to discover new music and genres. In the end it’s just me listening to new music as an excuse to break out my headphone amp, D/A, and headphones.

Oooh, that sounds like a death spiral for writing. I spend a bunch of time getting a Youtube playlist together that can go on for three days and I put that on in the background. Then all I have to do is resist watching the occasional video… 😉

Spotify was the death of me. Pandora irritated me with its casual approach to music that consisted of sub-genre top 40, and though I have close to 250gb of music (and listened to all of it), Spotify has even more.

Slap that with some AKG K702 headphones with a Benchmark DAC1 Pre and you’ll be in audio heaven. I’ve had to tear them away from people as they actually held on for one more song. Then you’ll get nothing done. Ever. I spent about a month doing nothing but listening to music.

With so much competition for our kids’ attention these days, I think it’s necessary for Disney et al to gear their wares to the parents as well. We’re the ones with the cash, after all.

True. Though, I do like how I get enjoyment out of it. I like those movies more than most of the ones aimed at my age demographic.

My point exactly. Unless you’re into buying “Gravity” paraphernalia, you’ll have plenty of money to spend on buying your kids games and toys for the movies that touch you – the kids’ ones.

Pixar are the worst – because they’re the best, besides Dreamworks and their damned Shrek. I must have seen that movie 800 times (no word of an exaggeration) and I still love it every time I see it.

It’s amazing how all the cleaning I had been stalling on gets done when there’s writing to be done. Also, GTA Online. “I’ll just sell a car and knock off a couple convenience stores. It’ll just take fifteen minutes. To refresh my brain. I swear.” Three hours later. “I can always write tomorrow.” Or for this story, “But playing Assassin’s Creed is research! The city would be just like Damascus.”
