Facing It

I had to face it eventually – the dreaded Facebook page. Not that I have anything against Facebook. It just goes a little against the grain of my personality to have anything dedicated specifically to draw attention to myself. Yes, I know you’re probably saying, why do you have a blog then? and you’re probably saying it in italics to boot.

My blog is a place to talk. When I write here I feel like I’m sitting at a table with a group of like-minded individuals, sharing a laugh, the occasional tear, and a big-assed pot of coffee, tea, wine, beer … You get the picture. But The Facebook Page is, well, it’s advertising. And at the moment I don’t have anything TO advertise, so it’s just me. Little ol’ me standing at the head of the class, waiting for a crowd of people who know more than I do to arrive. At least that’s how it feels.

So what’s the point of this then? I need some friends over there to keep me company, and to hold my hand when the crowd shows up.

Please, “Like” me on Facebook. Be a pal. 🙂

And I’ll get off my butt and get this book out. Then I’ll have something to hold up, to take the focus off little ol’ me.

Oh the dirty things we have to do 😉 You’ll survive! It is the era we are in that dictates we have to sell OURSELVES. Downright awkward – but hey ho – if it achieves the purpose in the long run…so be it dear ..

I liked your page from my personal FB, but can’t for the life of me figure out how to like your page from my blog page. LOL – Not the most astute at social media, either.

If you are FB liking in return, you could pop over to my Top of JC’s Mind blog page here: https://www.facebook.com/topofjcsmind and press like. 😉 I’d appreciate it! That goes for anyone else reading this comment who wants to take pity on my very little blog and Facebook page. (You can imagine a whole lot of winky and laughing faces here.)

I understand how you feel. I never wanted a FB page… I’m only doing it because it’s a good way to be “seen.” (I have enjoyed the convenience of keeping up with family who live zillions of miles away from me, however.) Took me forever to warm up to it. Sometimes I feel like I still haven’t, yet.

    Cool Linda 🙂
Whenever (or if ever) I get to FB I will definitely connect with you there.

Another double like. And, I will add that if you need someone to talk with on FB, I tend to keep the odd hour or two. Having an extra ear (and occasional mind to go with it) when you are writing can reap huge rewards.

Welcome to Facebook 🙂 I’ve been on it for years, though my author page has only been up for about a year. Anyway, I’ve liked your page twice – with my personal page and with my author page 🙂

If it weren’t for the fact that the young people in my life (niece, nephews, stepson and his gf) are all on FB plus the fact that I the social media coordinator for a non-profit group, I’d be shunning Facebook myself. Here’s a deal: I’ll push your button and then you can push mine, k?

I can relate so much to this!
Having my own personal Facebook page is easy. It’s literally just transferring my human-base reality onto a screen, and sharing it with a broader prospect of people: friends I’ve collected over the years, family members, and a few randoms who’s attention I caught in one way or another.
But when it comes to producing a page for my business, and attempting to draw in attention..well..that’s different. That’s taking it far away from everything I’m used to. I agree, blogging is such an easy thing to do… I don’t even think twice, it’s like sharing a more public-friendly version of my journal in a community with others who can appreciate it and accept me for who I am. My Facebook page is something totally new and foreign to me. I’m sure we’ll both get the hang of it, sooner or later! 🙂

I’ve been TRYING to turn my facebook page into an extension of community — since I also have very little to advertise at the moment (well, other than blog posts), it’s a way to connect as my “writer-self.” Of course, at the moment that author-page is mostly people I know in real life, though there are some who are not (!) And, many of my real-life people haven’t liked my writer-page (tsk on them….) Anyhow… I’ve “liked” you from both my personal and my author page — see you there!
