Save HarsH ReaLiTy!! – SUSPENSION LIFTED!!!

No one likes spam. In internet terms (as opposed to the stuff you find on the grocery store shelf) it’s the bane of our existence. Its sole purpose is to get our attention and once it does, it either begs us to buy something or gives us something we would never pay for – something like a virus.

Then there is the exception to the rule. In fact, there is only one exception that I’ve found in over a decade of browsing the web. It may have seemed like a “spam follow” at the start, but when I followed the cookie-crumb trail that led me back to its source, it ended up benefiting me beyond my wildest dreams: it was HarsH ReaLiTy.

Jason, also known as Opinionated Man, has a huge (over 50,000 blog, twitter, and Facebook combined) following on his blog, HarsH ReaLiTy. His passion for connecting with other bloggers is instantly recognizable by the way he interacts in the comments. How did he get such an audience? By following other blogs. By doing the exact same thing our self-serving spammers do. The difference is, Jason gets the attention of other bloggers and once he does, he helps them! Not by selling them things they don’t need – by guiding them to find followings of their own.

He has dedicated hours and hours to create places for bloggers to find their communities:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/12/29/wordpress-meet-and-greet-3-all-bloggers-welcome/

To help them draw attention to themselves:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/11/13/share-your-blogger-profile-all-bloggers-welcome/

To help them promote themselves:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/08/06/share-a-post-all-bloggers-welcome/

The trickle-down benefits alone are nothing less than astounding. If you have ever read any of my helpful hints on blogging, you can thank Jason – he taught me three quarters of what I know.

Why am I telling you all this? WordPress has seen fit to suspend HarsH ReaLiTy’s ability to follow and “like” other blogs. It’s a crime. WordPress is taking away one of its own biggest assets – a service provided to its own patrons, FOR FREE, and out of the goodness of one man’s heart. I wrote a post myself about how hard he works to help others grow their blogs here: https://lindaghill.com/2014/09/23/wordpresss-own-welcoming-committee-harsh-reality/

If Jason C. Cushman has ever helped you, if you have ever read any of his blogging advice, if you have ever guest posted for him, if he has ever re-blogged you, if you have ever commented on HarsH ReaLiTy and met another blogger there, please sign below.

Comment – leave your words of support or just write the words, Save HarsH ReaLiTy. I will make sure the WordPress powers-that-be see this post and all the support that goes with it.

Re-blog – make sure this goes out to every corner of WordPress that Jason has reached.

HarsH ReaLiTy is not a spam blog. It is WordPress’s shining star.

Edit: I’m purposely NOT responding to comments here so as not to dilute the message: WE SUPPORT HARSH REALITY AND WHAT JASON DOES TO HELP BLOGGERS!! Thank you to all who have shared and commented so far, and thanks in advance to all who will. Please keep commenting and re-blogging! Let’s keep this at the top of the Reader!

Edit: Now that HarsH ReaLiTy’s suspension is lifted I’ll turn off the comments here. This post will remain, however, as testimony to what Jason means to us! Long live Opinionated Man!!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who commented and re-blogged. Your support is both overwhelming and heartwarming.
Now pass around the cookies!! 😀

Edit – April 20th: Jason re-blogged this with the following comment:

I actually didn’t read this until now because I was moody at the time. I feel the love from this post and the comments here. Thanks bloggers. -OM

I’ve turned the comments back on. You’re very welcome, Jason. It was the least I could do for all you’ve done for this community. 😀

Save HarsH ReaLiTy WordPress and your reputation in the process! I’ve not been blogging very long and for the most part my dealings with You have been fine but your dealings with the OM have been ghastly and have caused me to wonder just who did I get in bed with to host my blog? I can’t be the only one wondering that and judging by the vast uproar commenced over this I’d say this is not a win for WordPress.

I wouldn’t think I’d have to blog in fear for entering the conversation. I have never seen eye-to-eye with OM on blogging methods but remain confused as to why – if the issue is behavior your system picked up – other aggressive bloggers who’ve amassed an even larger following have gotten off scot free. No, I don’t wish to play the bad guy and report anyone. But WPress staff has been hit up by the insincere follows just as I have, can easily pick them out. The ReaLiTy is the other powerbloggers have never been honest about what has been glaringly obvious to observers like me and staff members who’ve seen them in action. And these bloggers don’t rub shoulders with the masses the way OM has actively supported the likes of us whose following pales in comparison – with generous reblogs, guest spots, link-backs, technical questions. Even as you’re reading this, there are follow-happy bloggers blasting through WPress at lightning speed who don’t even get back to all the comments and are only feeding their ego on stage. Logic and justice say string ’em all or free ’em all. And as others have said, yes, it would be decent and helpful to be notified when we are on Big Brother’s radar. My experience with WPress Staff has been great and I know we’d all like to keep it that way.

Save Harsh Reality! This seems to be very strange: when we start blogging, there are set no limits to how many followers one should or shouldn’t have. It is an interesting blog, worth reading. I cannot understand how possibly this goes together with freedom of blogging. He always provided lots of support and advise for everybody. Why somebody should be concerned how many followers other blog has? Well, that is just wrong. He has to be saved!

NOT OKAY! I stopped following OM because I prune the blogs I follow periodically, but I check in on him every now and then, and quite often people have found my site from him. His site is better written, more useful to the blogging community and more dynamic than a lot of those out there. WordPress, you need to pop your head back out into the light and get him back online!

At first I wasn’t so sure if I’d like “Harsh Reality” served up by an “Opinionated Man,” but I’ve enjoyed the diversity and humor, I found there, even when I didn’t agree. I am very appreciative of one of his posts about peace inspiring me to write about Darth Vader and peace which Jason graciously re-blogged. I hope WP recognizes that the Opinionated Man’s Harsh Reality needs to be fully restored and does so soon.

This is nonsense and it really does piss me off. OM may be a lot of things, but he’s not a spammer. Don’t do this WordPress. Between all of the unannounced, unwelcome changes you’ve been making to the website lately, and now this bullshit with OM, you’re alienating a lot of bloggers. Cut it out. Just stop it. And apologize to OM. It’s the right thing to do.

I don’t understand why blogs such as Jason’s are blocked from following and yet I still get followers who want me to sign up to their ‘get rich quick’ schemes? Yes, Jason followed a lot of other blogs but when we went back and checked out his blog, we found a person who was likeable. Although I didn’t always agree with everything he said, he was entitled to his opinion. He helped me out several times and never asked for anything in return. I have found new blogs to follow through the comments on his posts and his guest bloggers. I just don’t understand why this has happened.

I urge you to reinstate Jason Cushman’s blog HarsH ReaLiTy. I’ve been blogging on WordPress for a little less than a year and HarsH ReaLiTy was one of the first blogs I discovered that offered a place for the exchange of honest commentary and opinion. Jason’s straight-forward, unadulterated writing style was thought provoking and a breath of fresh air.

Best of all, he was more than willing to share his knowledge and expertise with new bloggers like myself. Without Jason’s blogging articles I would have been lost when I started. Also, his blog allowed myself and other bloggers to connect and communicate with each other…isn’t that what blogging is all about?!

I’ve been participating in Blogging 101 this year and the main theme of the course so far is to reach out to the WordPress community. To follow other blogs and to comment/like posts on those blogs. The point of this, I’m told is to interact with the community and encourage others to check out and hopefully follow my blog. The course encourages me to do this as much as possible…to become aware of the diversity of the blogging community and have other bloggers become aware of my blog.

That’s exactly what Jason was doing. He took blogging and the people who engaged in his site seriously and he did it better than anyone I know!! There is no other place I know of that allows bloggers to share their views and communicate with others than HarsH ReaLiTy…and WordPress WILL be diminished by it’s loss!!

DO THE RIGHT THING…REINSTATE HarsH ReaLiTy!!!

    Very Best Regards,
    Eric A. Gehlin

Freedom of speech…again has been lost to us! It’s quite simple, if someone doesn’t like, don’t follow, or use your voice the way Jason would. None of us have to like every single thing someone says and that’s just fine, we can voice it…but that means Jason’s voice should be heard too! I am angered.

Please reinstate Jason Cushman’s blog HarsH ReaLiTy. He is not a spammer and has helped numerous bloggers around the world. Is it even possible that 51,946 followers could be wrong? I son’t tend to think so. So again, please re-think your decision and restore full blogging rights to this individual. Your consideration and attention to this matter is greatly appreciated! Thank you and have a good day!

I’m a new blogger and just found Harsh Reality last week. I was throughly enjoying his site, please don’t push him away from WordPress with your ridiculous anti-popularity rule! He’s popular for a reason — because he’s got great content. It would be a shame to see him go.

Please! Save Harsh Reality. JC helped me get in touch with other bloggers when I began with WordPress. I even emailed him to ask a question and he promptly emailed me back with a detailed answer and an invitation to ask more questions if I needed. He is not a spammer, nor does he deserve the treatment he is receiving from WordPress. I’m writing to clear up any misunderstanding you have about him.

This is a disgraceful breach of his human rights. How can anybody say Jason is doing anything wrong on his blogs. He is fabulous and he has brought out the best in most of us who read his posts. FREEDOM OF SPEECH ONLY SEEMS TO APPLY IF YOUR FACE FITS. I am disgruntled and annoyed at the actions of WordPress, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Let HARSH REALITY STAY. we all love him.

Jason isn’r selling anything except free help to other bloggers. He excels at doing what I was taught in Blogging 101 – he visits, he comments, he teaches people how to network and build community. He does it with untiring passion and does not gain anything from it other than people’s gratitude. Please restore his privileges and write a Daily Post lauding his big heart. thanks, revgerry
