Choices aren’t terribly abundant these days. There are few places most of us can choose to go, to buy, to eat … But the choices we do have are important ones. For some of us, they’re life and death.
I don’t want to get on a soapbox.
But there are so many people not taking Covid-19 seriously, and it saddens me greatly. People who think it will never happen to them, or worse, people who think it’s a conspiracy.
Thousands of people went out today in Toronto because the weather was nice.
In a week or two, we’ll be locked down again like it’s March all over again. Not that I’m planning to do anything differently than I am now anyway, but it’s going to suck for people who truly have difficulties with having to stay at home.
And, of course, it’s going to suck even more for those who die or lose someone.
Patience seems to be barely a thing any more. And I get it–no one wants this. No one wants the level of change we’re experiencing. But the less patient we are, the longer it will go on.

Gah! I’m late! It’s Friday, and time for your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. I was so good about getting up early yesterday, so I thought I’d wait until this morning to post this. Silly me, I slept in. Here, finally, is your SoCS prompt for this week:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ch.” Find a word that starts with “ch” and use it as your prompt word. Bonus points if you start your post with that word. Enjoy!
After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here to this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!
To make your post more visible, use our beautiful SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what youâre going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence â one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry â it doesnât matter. Just let the words carry you along until youâre ready to stop.
3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say âWrite about dogsâ; the prompt will be more like, âMake your first sentence a question,â âBegin with the word âThe,â” or will simply be a single word to get you started.
4. Ping back! Itâs important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If youâre self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other personâs blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If youâre the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, âStream of Consciousness Saturday,â which youâll find below the âLikeâ button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if youâd like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers youâll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
We’ve been having lovely weather, so we managed to get out for walks. Winston (my dog) was covered in so much loose hair this morning when I let him out of his crate, I wondered if I could weave a carpet out of it. Shedding is just one thing to love about this time of year, isn’t it?
They finally came around this morning to remove the stump from the tree on my front lawn that the city cut down. It feels like closure. Like I’ve had remains of a friend, a constant reminder of loss, taken away. Yeah, it was only a tree. But when it came down, it felt life-changing. Then all this happened, and, well, it kinda feels like everything can start going back to some sense of normalcy now. Weird? Probably.
Yesterday:
I took some pretty pictures of spring while we were out walking.
Photos: Cherry and apple blossoms in white and pink.
And two days ago:
My new short story came out!
Pixy is only 99 cents or free if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, so if you like lighthearted paranormal romance stories, you’ll love this short, delightful love story. Pick it up today! (Click the photo below.)
Many thanks. đ
Why I’m writing this post:
Because if you’re like me and stuck at home already, or if you’re going to be like me soon, the days of the week are hell to keep track of. We have a wonderful community here on WordPress and all over the Internet as well, and I’m sure many people are feeling nervous and/or isolated. I want to make sure every one of us has somewhere to congregate and someone to talk to.
I want everyone to know that you can start discussions with each other in the comments, and if you’d like to write your own “What Day is it Anyway?” post, you can link to this one. Hashtag #WDIIA.

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the âOne-Liner Wednesdayâ title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday youâre pinging back to is this weekâs! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.
NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If youâre self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. Itâs bound to be short and sweet.
Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so thereâs no need to stick to the same âtheme.â
The rules that Iâve made for myself (but donât always follow) for âOne-Liner Wednesdayâ are:
1. Make it one sentence.
2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.
3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.
4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!
Today was Victoria Day in Canada. Did it feel like a holiday? Absolutely not. Although I’ve gotta say, it does feel like a Sunday, because Alex had no hour of school work this morning. Which he usually finishes before I’m out of bed anyway.
I’ve spent most of the day being funny. At least I hope I have, since I’m editing another romantic comedy. I need to get the cover done for it, but I can’t decide on a title. Maybe you can help.
Book 1, Saddled, is about a male stripper who dances in bar called Woody O’Flanagan’s Pub. The stripper’s stage name is Saddle McFleshbomb, which is where I got the title of the book from.
The one I’m working on now is the prequel. It’s about the owner of the bar, Cal O’Flanagan, and it takes place as he’s getting the bar open and ready for business. At the time of this book, the pub is just that–a pub/restaurant–so there’s no stripper name to go with. I want to keep the title to one word. I’ve considered Nibbled and Swallowed, the latter because the romance is about Cal meeting his future wife. She’s in a position where she has to convince someone she’s dating Cal’s brother throughout the book, therefore, someone has to swallow the fake relationship, plus, well, you swallow food and drink at a pub, right?
Thoughts? Is Swallowed too weird for the title of a book? Keep in mind it just may have a shirtless guy on the cover.

Unable to concentrate on doing anything productive today, I listened to a book. It was a good book. The Wives by Tarryn Fisher. Gripping. You should pick it up.
On a completely different note, today is the day I’ve decided 2020 can go to hell.

I don’t want much in life. A roof over my head, food to eat, health …
The simple things in life are fine. I live inside my head much of the time, so that’s my entertainment. It can be, at least.
I managed to get out for a walk with Alex this afternoon, and then another one by myself after I worked in my car. I didn’t get a lot of work done, since I need a new battery in my laptop. The old one only lasts an hour, hour and a half.
This is the view from my car. I got out and took the photo so I wouldn’t pick up the dirty window.
Photo: Four adult Canada geese and about 25 goslings, all grazing on the grass with the lake in the background.
And here’s a video I took just off the trail when I went for my walk. Turn up the sound.
So yeah, that was my Saturday. Quite nice, actually.

Holy shamoly, it’s Friday! And that means it’s time for your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. Believe it or not, I’m starting to have a hard time coming up with brand new prompts. It’s only been, what … 321 weeks since I started this? Not even a year’s worth of daily prompts. Sheesh! Here’s your SoCS prompt for this week:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “want.” Make the word “want” the first, second, or third word of your post. Have fun!

It’s been … different. The last two days have been, actually, but I’ll start with today. I went for a walk on my own as Alex went from having his coat and shoes on to changing his mind as I was about to walk out the door with him. By the time I got up the street, according to his brother, he was already in his pjs again. So in went my headphones and I spent the next hour and 45 minutes walking snaking my way around the block listening to the book that was due to go back to the library today.
I am so glad I discovered Libby and that I can listen to books from the library on my phone. I’m seriously thinking about having audiobook versions made of my own books.
The rest of my day has been spent mostly working on the aforementioned own books.
Yesterday:
I took Alex to his cardiology appointment in the morning. As I suspected, there has been a slight change in the structure of his heart, necessitating a slight increase in his meds. I was surprised to find that very few people–patients, doctors, techs, or nurses–were wearing masks. Then again, there are no known cases of Covid-19 in Kingston right now, and everyone who enters the building is screened. All of the people sick or suspected of being sick are sent to the other hospital in town.
Alex ended up doing well, with only a little nervousness when he saw the social distancing lines on the floor. It’s the first time he’s been anywhere but home since that part all began. I’m glad I took him, though admittedly, I’ll be watching us both closely for the next two weeks, just in case.
The <sarcasm>best</sarcasm> part of my day came when I got home and found a letter in the mail. The letter itself was dated May 6th, and the post mark on the envelope tells me it was mailed May 8th. What did the letter say? Get this.
Although my name was on the envelope, my mother was the addressee of the letter itself. It said something to the effect of “We’re writing to inform you that we are moving you to [Name of] Retirement Home. This move will happen on May 8th. Signed: The Hospital Administrator.”
I had to talk to someone at the hospital where my mother has been living since March 22nd about another matter, so I called and we discussed that. Before I hung up, I told the woman about this letter I’d received, saying it was odd.
Me: Anyway, I just want to confirm my mother is still there at the hospital.
Her: No, they moved her on Friday.
Me: They what?
Her: They didn’t tell you?
Me: No! I just got the letter today!
Her: …
Me: They moved her five days ago without telling me?
Her: Apparently.
At that point I started laughing at the absurdity of it all.
So yeah. My mother is in yet another retirement home, and half her stuff is still in the first one.
I just can’t with this whole situation anymore.
The good news is my mum seems to be doing well. She was quite chipper when I talked to her on Tuesday … although she had no idea where she was. Turns out I lied to her when I told her I was just up the street from her. She’s halfway across town.
<insert eyeroll>

Wanna know what gets neglected in my house all winter while I’m busy single-parenting my kids, writing and editing books, and all the other stuff that goes into my 24/7 job?
My upstairs ceiling fan. Apparently the spiders take over where I leave off, though.
