Our prompt word of the day today is “optimism.” Thank you so much, June for your wonderful prompt!
In coming up with something to write on the subject of optimism, I’ve discovered something. As I so often do.
I’ve discovered that optimism is easier the narrower the subject gets. Case in point:
Am I optimistic about the state of the world? Not really. At least not with the way it’s going.
The state of my country? A bit more so, but it’s beginning to go the way of the world.
The province I live in? Not unless we can get rid of Doug Ford.
My family? Sure. We’re doing okay.
This post?
I have the highest optimism that it’s going to get posted in three … two … one …

Countdown to the things we can directly influence…flows directly upward to the world at large.
Good reminder!

Linda, You make a good point that optimism is like a cone and that it’s a perspective influenced by the amount of control we have in any situation. I will continue to ponder this. 😉

I think the trick is not to try to expand on the cone too much. It’s easy to fall into “doom, despair, and agony” (haha!) when our control slips away.
Thanks for your comment, Kaye! 😀

I know them well—Doom, Despair, and Agony—the Three Musketeers of of pessimism. I work diligently to shoo them away when they come around too often. 😉

True, we are more optimistic about things nearer to us

I think it’s got a lot to do with the amount of control we have … or believe we have.
