#SoCS – Modern Photography

There was a time long ago, back when I walked to school uphill both ways, when I was very careful about the photos I took. There were only so many available on the film, after all. I didn’t want to waste them! I had to buy the film, take it to the store when it was full of pictures, then pay to wait a week until it was developed.

Now that kids have it easier and presumably walk downhill both ways to school (like seriously, did the schools move?), I can take a thousand pictures of nothing and it doesn’t cost me a cent. AND I have them immediately—no waiting a week.

Why am I going on about this? I’m getting there, young whippersnapper.

Because we were so careful, we’d make sure not to get strangers in the backgrounds of our photos if we could help it. And yeah, I still try to be careful, but I can take ten of the same picture to make sure the majority of the strangers are facing the other way.

There’s always been the danger of getting sued by someone who ended up in your picture, especially if you post it publicly. But we take so many pictures these days without really thinking about it. Videos too. It’s a national pastime to photograph as many things as we can.

So that got me thinking—how many strangers have taken pictures of me? Not because they wanted to, but just because I was there at the time.

It’s kinda creepy to think about it.

Kinda.

#SoCS – I Figure

I figure I don’t need to feel too guilty today for not posting my SoCS post until Sunday. I spent most of my free time today helping a friend.

I figure I’m going to be tired tomorrow, though. The clock says 1:23am, but we all know it’s really 2:23 with daylight savings time.

I figure it’s a good thing that I got my new phone last week and had to finally come into the 21st century and get data. This way, Alex can video call me when I’m not home, and I won’t need to feel totally terrified of leaving him alone for ten minutes, since he’ll be able to call me.

I figure I got a pretty good deal, too. My provider started a new deal the day I went in, and I got a free tablet with my phone. They share data.

I figure by now you want to know what kind of phone I got: a new Huawei! I love it so far. And it’s a lot like the old one, so the learning curve is mostly app-related, not phone-related.

I figure it’s got a pretty good camera. I took this as the moon was coming up tonight. Can you see the moon? Follow the bottom tip of the flag straight down–it’s in the crook of the branch. This photo is really zoomed in and not blurry, which is why I figure I’ve got a good camera.

I figure I should get out for a walk soon and take more pictures.

I figure I should go to bed now.

Good night, my friends.
