Life in progress

#JusJoJan the 14th – Freckled

A lot of people know of my struggles in life.

Single with two disabled adult kids.

Two full-time jobs (which I’m blessed to be able to do from home).

An only child whose mother is in a long term care home, who I don’t see nearly enough (her home has been in outbreak status since before Christmas, though none of the residents are sick—staff in the home tested positive).

But with all this and more (did I mention housework? It’s the bane of my existence I tell you!)…

My life is freckled with moments of joy.

It finds spots in my day through the laughter of my children,

the occasional sale of a book,

something online that makes me smile,

the coming together of this blogging community …

These things (and more) make everything worth getting up in the morning.

This day-late (sorry, Maggie!) stream of consciousness post is brought to you by Just Jot it January and Maggie, with the prompt, “freckled.” Check out Maggie’s post here. Thank you so much for the prompt, Maggie!

#JusJoJan the 13th – Protocol

I’ve set up a specific list of to-dos this year—an informal protocol, one might say, for keeping myself on track.

How am I doing with that so far?

Well, my writing and editing have been consistent.

I have walking written down too, but I’ve missed that a couple of days so far.

Blogging? Yeah, not so much.

But you know what trips me up the most?

Stuff I wasn’t expecting.

That stuff does not follow protocol.

No sirree.

This tardy (sorry, John!) stream of consciousness post is brought to you by Just Jot it January and John Holton with the prompt, “protocol.” Check out John’s post here. Thank you so much for the prompt, John!

SoCS & JusJoJan the 8th – In the …

In the attempt to do all the things today, I still missed the thing that is blogging.

Until now, but it’s officially Sunday, and no longer today.

Today meaning Saturday … it is no longer.

I almost forgot to schedule the prompt for tomorrow!

Which is technically today.

Because today is Sunday, and today will have a new prompt.

Which I almost forgot.

In the attempt to blog today (which is not today) it seems I have forgotten how words work.

For this is a very odd post indeed.

And forgetting how words work on a day that I am sure is not today but tomorrow, is par for the course.

Because as you know, I am the one who asks …

What day is it anyway?

Most days.

Okay, kids are calling me.

Good night!

#JusJoJan the 6th – Anticipation

Just a quickie jot tonight since it’s late. I started a new editing job yesterday, and though I was anticipating its arrival, I had to struggle not to get behind today. Something had to give, and today, that thing was the blog.

Sorry! I’ll try to get to all the comments tomorrow and continue my recent new habit of trying to read a few posts a day.

Justifying the Juxtaposition of my Balls

By now it’s no secret how busy I am. I’m juggling so many balls at a time, I can barely keep track of them.

Do I drop ’em every once in a while?

I’m not a very good juggler, but somehow I almost always manage to catch ’em before they reach the floor.

The real struggle, though? Is when I have to use one to justify the other.

I can’t do this because I’ve got to do that right now, or that won’t get done before I drop the ball.

Organizing the juxtaposition of my balls is almost as hard as keeping them in the air.

And yeah, sometimes I have to bullshit my way through it all, in order to keep my sanity.

Because, you know what? I’m not perfect.

But the alternative is having a whole mess of balls on the floor. And if there’s one thing that’s worse than juggling?

It’s cleaning up balls.

Thanks to the three lovely ladies who gave me my three “J” words for today’s oversharing not-A-Z post. You’ll find their links under the words “juxtaposition,” “juggling,” and “justify.”

This will be the last time this week that I’ll look for suggestions, since the “L” word will be Saturday’s SoCS prompt. So, “K” words? Anyone? One per person, and keep ’em clean if you please. I’ll accept the first three I get … remember, the oldest comments are at the bottom of all the comments on my posts.

#SoCS – Cheers?

I’m so mad at myself. I’ve spent the whole day procrastinating. Problem is, I have too much to do. Strange how that works. So I wonder if I’ll get more done if I open a bottle of wine …

See, thing is, having too much to do makes me uptight. It makes me want to run away and do something I don’t have to worry about getting finished as much. I’m currently (supposed to be) writing two short stories, proofreading my next novel … OH! Did I tell you? I managed to get a really REALLY good deal on a black-and-white-print-only laser printer, and MAN, does it work well! I’ve been using it for various things for the past, like, six weeks or so, and yesterday I printed off my 366-page manuscript and I still have a half-full cartridge of ink … and it’s the one the printer came with! It’s practically already paid for itself! Oh, I’m so happy with it. It’s a Brother … if you’re interested, I can get you the model number.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. And I’ve also been procrastinating on getting this month’s colouring project done THAT HAS TO BE POSTED TOMORROW! Not going to get to admire this one at all. 😛 And I’ve been putting off writing this post because I didn’t want to open my bottle of wine too early.

But it’s not too early now, is it? Nope. Ten o’clock.

This late (read: put-off) post is brought to you by a very sober (so far) Stream of Consciousness Saturday. You can find the rules and the rest of the participating posts in the comments by clicking here:
