NaNo Nono

Do you ever have one of those days when you want to write – you really do – but everything that comes out of you is sheer crap? I’m having one of those today.

On a happier note, I handed in what I consider another eight pages of utter drivel for my short story course today. Well, okay, maybe it’s not that bad. I hope it’s not. But I wasn’t allowed to polish it since it had to be a rough draft, so I certainly wasn’t happy with it.

It’ll at least be interesting to see if my professor sees the same things wrong with it as I do.

So unless I get a reprieve from this creative brain fart I’m having today, my NaNo wordcount is going to pot. I am so due for a weekend off – it’s been five weeks.

Maybe after 48 hours of solid sleep this weekend I’ll be back into the swing of things. Back in the saddle.

Back to being creative enough not to keep falling back on proverbs.

Or maybe I’ll feel better after a good night’s rest tonight. After all, tomorrow is another day.

I’m not enjoying na noo na noo at all, I don’t like the pressure, I don’t like not being able to amend and shift around stuff and I don’t like being nagged via email! 😉

I’ve been struggling a little to get my chapter done each day… I’m more concerned with finishing a chapter each day than I am my actual word count…

Ah, the pressure we put on ourselves. I find that it’s better to leave my writing in a place where I know where it’s going, and even better, in the middle of something exciting. I can see where leaving it at the end of a chapter would be good, as long as your chapters are cliffhangers. 🙂

I like the chapter approach for myself… as for cliff hangers I’m not too sure… I am posting everyday what I write so part of me is taking a serial approach to the story also…

I can relate… it is difficult to stay on top of my reader and I haven’t written a single poem since NaNo started…

It takes over. But it’s fun, exciting and best of all, motivating! Once it’s finished I usually find myself writing more than I did before, even if I’ve completed my NaNo project.

Well this is my first time participating in NaNo and I intend to have a novel written come December first. I am determined… but come the first day of December I think I will be going back to poetry for a while, while I digest this experience… Despite the writing being a little forced I am still relatively satisfied with what I have produced so far…and that I believe would drive your professor mad…the first draft final draft thing… outside of the odd typo that slipped through I don’t think it requires much in the way of editing… we will see if I can keep that up as I peel away the layers of my story… the deeper and more complicated my mythos becomes the more difficult the writing becomes and the harder to maintain my standard…

yeah I’m of the opinion that if the words aint flying, it’s time to do something else. Unless you write for a living, then you’re screwed I guess

No, Linda, everything I write comes out beautifully and with great ease…*chokes* sputters * dies*
    We all have those days.
But the great authors say we must write through those days, too.

Oh, Joey, I’m sure you never have days like these. I heard you have a unicorn who poops rainbows for sale too? I’ll buy that. 😉
I’m actually trying to come up with a reward for myself if I write another 400 words to get up to my wordcount for the day. Never mind that it will have to be rewritten… as you say, it’s writing through it that matters.
Thanks for the advice my dear. 🙂

Not my advice, no! LOL I gave you sarcasm and compassion! The great authors gave the advice!
400 behind is not too shabby! It will all need to be edited later anyway 🙂

Not your advice, but you did pass it on – it was something I’d forgotten in my woe and agony of spewing vomit onto the page. 😛
And yes, very true, it will be edited. I think that may be half my problem. I’ve been doing nothing but editing for the past ten months and I’m expecting too much from myself. It ain’t easy to pry that editors hat off!

Some say Thursday night is an extension of the weekend. Which means meeting my two favorite muses: Jack and Coke. 😉 Good luck on your writing and weekend off!

I hope you can overcome it soon. I’ve been there and it is extremely frustrating.

I must say I’m jealous of your proposed 48 hr sleep marathon.

I’ve had those days. I have a lot of those days actually. And I’ve found that the best thing is to find something fun to write outside of your comfort zone. Not something challenging though, instead I write something frivolous with the most ridiculous dialog and over the top prose I can muster to flex different intellectual muscles. It’s fun and it often breaks me out of my funk (sometimes I find some a turn of phrase that I’ll use later, in one case a novel idea).

I know exactly what you mean…..and then rarely it comes out right….and that is a nice feeling, I guess!
