Why is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse playing on my television screen?
Because it’s a snow day.
Why is it a snow day?
Because the plows haven’t been out yet, so the buses aren’t running.
Why haven’t the plows been out? This is Canada!! We get snow!!!
Purportedly, the town I’m in hasn’t seen a real winter in five years. I haven’t been here that long, but I can say that out of three green Christmases I’ve experienced in my lifetime, two have been here in the last four years. So, okay. I get it. They probably didn’t budget for a real winter here this year.
But come on! The equipment is there – I’ve seen it. It came by yesterday. The staff has been hired … look out the window, city snow removal people! There are kids who really REALLY want to go to school! I can tell by the completely-absorbed-in-tv-and-computer-look on my little darling’s face that he can’t wait…

It wasn’t another damned snow day today but it was so cold I decided to wait until tomorrow to go on my walk. At least then it’ll be in the 20s. I love the change of seasons and winter no less than the others but I’m tired of being so damned cold!

Me too! Not looking forward to complaining about the heat though. 😛

Really? A few years ago it hit 122 degrees here, with the humidity. How hot does it get there?

Like walking in a fishbowl… humidity is ridiculous, but I can’t afford or have the time to go to the gym. I make the best of it and carry water. I appreciate air conditioning. I’ve gotten used to adapting thanks to places I’ve lived not having air conditioning in homes or apartments. I walk slow and use sunscreen. In Madrid there’s a very good reason no one goes out mid-afternoon in the summer. It is truly 9 months of winter and 3 months of hell.
None of this has anything to do with my grandson. Heat index too high I don’t take him out. We go to the pool early in the day and come in for the afternoon. Nap time anyway. 🙂
It’s just me and I hope I can always stay this way. I love the sun and don’t ever want it to be too much for me.

I appreciate A/C as well – I had central before I moved here four years ago. Now I have a boiler – no forced air, so I’m stuck with one window air conditioner in the kitchen of a six bedroom house. On top of everything else, Alex can’t breathe well in the heat.
I prefer winter over summer, but nothing beats spring and fall.

We’re at the other end of the spectrum. No snow, lots of sun, and freezing … sort of. I think the gods are a bit confused this year.

I’ve seen ‘too-cold-to-snow’ many times. I’d rather have the snow, I think. But yes, the weather is screwed up just about everywhere. You have to wonder if this is a trend, or if it will go back to normal. 😛

I’m sorry about Mickey Mouse.
In contrast, I didn’t care to take the children to the bus stop this morning, when it was 0 feels like -27 and snow squalling, so that they could walk home in even colder temps this afternoon.
It’s supposed to be worse tomorrow, and FIL says he will drive them in. Whew.

Thanks for the consolation. It was truly terrible, but at least it wasn’t Barney.
One of these days I’m going to screen-shot my local weather forecast and post it. Best of luck with your weather!

Ah, you’re lucky. Then again, I can’t really complain. When you’ve got a Deaf kid you can turn the volume all the way down and he doesn’t complain. At least I don’t have to listen to that insidious “I love you, you love me” song.

I always wonder how much snow is needed to close schools in Canada. Only because my area closes schools at the threat of large snowstorms.

It depends on the city. When I lived close to Ottawa, they didn’t close the schools unless we had more than 2 feet in the space of eight to twelve hours. The buses always ran – I think we had a half a dozen snow days in eleven years. Here it seems (I’m only three hours away) the four inches we got last night were enough.

Guess it depends on the area and how prepared they are.

Pretty much, yeah. Again, with the school buses it’s the liability thing. I would drive today, and there are plenty of cars on the road. But they won’t.

Knowing how some people drive around here on icy roads, I’m not that upset about that. People can be idiots in bad weather.

True. We have a weird combination of drivers in this area. Most of the population is aging, so many of them are overly careful – slow, but not really a problem. However, considering their age, sometimes their lack of decision-making skills makes them dangerous. So basically, there’s the old people and then there’s the older people, with a few teenagers thrown in for good measure. It’s a fun place to drive in the best of conditions. 😛

Our schools are closed again too. But mostly because we are rural and the temps are unbearable and dangerous. The plows have been out and done their best, but overnight the 50 mph winds closed and blocked roads again. I think we have been out of school more than in since returning from Christmas break (and that return was delayed a few days due to heavy snows). This isn’t typical for us either. I know how hard it is on parents to have kids home all day (and me too since I allow my secretary to be off when schools are closed – I need her back soon).

Yeah, not sure when I’m going to do my papers. It’s too cold to take Alex out, not to mention the snow is so deep I’m afraid I’ll lose him. 😛 If they come around and plow later, maybe I’ll be able to take the car and leave him in it.
Weird weather for everyone, eh?
