About My Fiction Blog

I’ve been trying to find ways to get more people to follow my fiction blog. I realize that fiction doesn’t tend to be as popular as real life sorts of sites, like this one; I think that’s partly because fiction is more subjective. If the first piece someone reads isn’t quite their cup of tea, they’re more likely to skip the whole thing. Which is, not so oddly enough, why it’s so important to have a great ‘hook’ at the beginning of a story.

But I digress.

In an attempt to get more bloggers to go to my fiction blog–to see that it exists–I’ve decided to make it my primary blog for a week. What this means is, if you click on my name, say, in the comment section of a post, the link will take you to “Inspiration in Progress” instead of here: “Life in Progress.”

I’m telling you this because if it annoys you, my regular followers, I’ll change it back. But I need you to let me know. The place to do it is in the comment section below.

I’ll make the change Monday morning, since I won’t be around for most of today.

Have a lovely Sunday, everyone!

  1. I will read very little fiction on blogs, and I always read yours, so this affects me very little, I suppose. I very much enjoy the word choices which lead to the brevity of your pieces. You really make every word count.

  3. Like Silver Threading, I let my blog cover all kinds of topics-fiction, poetry, rants, essays, guest posts, the works. Not ever topic is popular, but I find single visitor spend more time on the site exploring different posts, 3-4 per unique visitor on a regular basis. Sometimes a single visitor will look at up to ten.

    • I started out that way but then everyone kept telling me that it was better to stick to a certain theme, so I made a separate fiction blog. It’s been in existence for a year and a half and has just over a quarter of the number of followers as this one does… and I’m sure a lot of that has much to do with the fact that no one knows it’s there. πŸ˜›
Thanks for sharing your experience – maybe I should have just left well enough alone in the first place.

  4. It won’t bother me because I get both of your blogs in my reader :-D. But I think it’s a great idea. Maybe it will help drive new traffic to your other blog!

  6. I actually agree with the others saying combine them. Like for me I have started a 52 Fictions Project on mine where I do one piece every week for a whole year. It would be a good way to ease them together in my opinion. I hope you the best of luck with your fiction, I will be searching for it excitedly.

  7. Completely on board with your idea – alas, I do prefer connecting with your ‘real life’ but interested enough to book mark it or navigate my way here without you making it easy! πŸ™‚ Interested in how this change pans out! RE: just heard of yet another poor soul who struggled with a torn rotator cuff that was undiagnosed for 6 months or more – to date, all 7 of those I know finally got the diagnosis after having an MRI – here’s hoping you’ve found a doctor/healthcare provider who is helping with your pain/injury! πŸ™‚

  8. Didn’t know you had a second blog, either; I suppose that makes me a bad person. But you might want to edit this post so it contains a link to your other blog. XD

    • Nah, you’re not bad – I’m just bad at advertising I guess. πŸ˜› There’s a link in my sidebar at the top to the recent posts there. And now if you click my name next to my gravatar, it will take you there automatically. πŸ˜€
Thanks for your comment, Kaine. πŸ™‚
