The English language amazes me. I’m sure many other languages are equally amazing, but English is the one I’m most familiar with, so it’s the one I’ll talk about.
When I came up with this week’s prompt, “degree(s),” I had one thing in mind. The temperature. But then I thought about how many different things it could mean and I was astounded. So many words in the English language are like this. It must be so confusing for people learning it. At the same time it opens up so many possibilities for things like the SoCS prompt.
In my mind right at this moment is the worry about what will happen with SoCS when I take some time off from my blog in December, and since this is stream of consciousness, that’s what I’ll write about.
I won’t be around for perhaps three weekends in December. I can handle this in a number of ways: I can just not put up prompts and let SoCS go for that time; I can pre-schedule the prompts and let SoCS run on its own, or I can get someone to guest-post for me. If that is the case, I can either leave it up to the guest poster to come up with the prompts or I can leave them myself for the guest to put up.
I suppose I need to know if anyone would be interested in doing it. I’m leaning toward this way of doing things, as sometimes participating bloggers need a helping hand with the pingbacks, and because I like to ensure that everything is being read. It’s a big job.
I realize that it’s still a long way off, so if you want to let me know that you might be interested, I won’t hold you to it. I merely want a feel at this point if there’s anyone at all who’s interested. Please comment below.
Thanks!

I’m getting to this a little late, and it looks like you might have all the help you need – but, if there’s something else, just let me know. I’m doing OctPoWriMo this month, and NaNo next, so, by December, I may NEED to just putter and read for a bit before I gear up for 2015.
I’d be happy to come up with a prompt, make the weekly post, and I’ll definitely step up my reading, either way.

I honestly thought you would have a ton of volunteers, so I find myself shocked that you only have one so far. I’ll throw my hat in! If you decide you want to guest post them, I would be happy to help. 😉

Thanks Helen. I’ve had someone email me as well that they might be interested, so now there are three of you and three weeks to cover. I may just schedule each of you for one week. 🙂

I’d like to be interested, but we’re running into problems with our connectivity to the internet and I never know if it’ll work that day or not.

I think there’s a lot to be said for keeping it running while you’re away. I’d be glad to consider hosting or facilitating or supplying a prompt or something to help make that happen. You’ve supplied me with a healthy influx of readers on the back of this SoCS thing, I’d be glad to help out.
Incidentally, as a teacher of English, I feel your pain at the overanalysis of words.

Thanks for the offer, Pav. I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve had a few people now say they might be interested, so I may have one a week, so as not to overload anyone with work.
I’m probably the worst one at over-analyzing – myself at least, especially when I’m editing. 😛

That’s weird. It’s in my “about” section if you’re ever looking for it again. Maybe because it’s not my name…

I’m enjoying this so much, I’ll continue regardless. Unless someone volunteers, (not me since I still feel like a newbie and low tech by nature) I wonder if there’s a way to give us all three prompts ahead of time. It would be hard not to plan ahead, but we could write short posts and ping back to the same one? The comment section might be too long though if it was three weeks worth.
Just brainstorming. Thanks for the heads up.

If I write the prompts myself ahead of time I’ll just schedule them for the Friday before each, so as not to cause any confusion. It’ll take a lot of participation by everyone involved though, to make sure new bloggers feel welcome and to make sure everyone gets read!
I’ll figure it out. 🙂 Thanks for the input, JoAnne! 😀

The problem with dropping the prompts is the continuity of the thing takes a kick to the shin. Maybe someone will volunteer to do it for you. (Not me)

That’s what I’m afraid of – that if everyone takes a break they won’t necessarily come back.
The more I think of it, the more I’m thinking that letting it run without me and just asking everyone to forgive me for not being around might end up being the answer. I’d need people like you and the other regulars to help explain the situation… You already read just about every link that goes into the comments, which I have to say is much appreciated!

How dare you even consider being absent on my birthday December 22nd. I thought we were friends. Did it ever occur to you that I may have an opinion about you not being around? Did you? Huh? 😛 #Whatever

I think running it with no one at the helm will be my last resort. I don’t want people to feel as though I’m just ignoring their efforts. Although, having said that, we have such a great community here, perhaps I can just ask everyone to put in a little extra effort to help out and read all they can… 🙂 Thanks very much for your comment!
