Save HarsH ReaLiTy!! – SUSPENSION LIFTED!!!

No one likes spam. In internet terms (as opposed to the stuff you find on the grocery store shelf) it’s the bane of our existence. Its sole purpose is to get our attention and once it does, it either begs us to buy something or gives us something we would never pay for – something like a virus.

Then there is the exception to the rule. In fact, there is only one exception that I’ve found in over a decade of browsing the web. It may have seemed like a “spam follow” at the start, but when I followed the cookie-crumb trail that led me back to its source, it ended up benefiting me beyond my wildest dreams: it was HarsH ReaLiTy.

Jason, also known as Opinionated Man, has a huge (over 50,000 blog, twitter, and Facebook combined) following on his blog, HarsH ReaLiTy. His passion for connecting with other bloggers is instantly recognizable by the way he interacts in the comments. How did he get such an audience? By following other blogs. By doing the exact same thing our self-serving spammers do. The difference is, Jason gets the attention of other bloggers and once he does, he helps them! Not by selling them things they don’t need – by guiding them to find followings of their own.

He has dedicated hours and hours to create places for bloggers to find their communities:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/12/29/wordpress-meet-and-greet-3-all-bloggers-welcome/

To help them draw attention to themselves:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/11/13/share-your-blogger-profile-all-bloggers-welcome/

To help them promote themselves:

http://aopinionatedman.com/2014/08/06/share-a-post-all-bloggers-welcome/

The trickle-down benefits alone are nothing less than astounding. If you have ever read any of my helpful hints on blogging, you can thank Jason – he taught me three quarters of what I know.

Why am I telling you all this? WordPress has seen fit to suspend HarsH ReaLiTy’s ability to follow and “like” other blogs. It’s a crime. WordPress is taking away one of its own biggest assets – a service provided to its own patrons, FOR FREE, and out of the goodness of one man’s heart. I wrote a post myself about how hard he works to help others grow their blogs here: https://lindaghill.com/2014/09/23/wordpresss-own-welcoming-committee-harsh-reality/

If Jason C. Cushman has ever helped you, if you have ever read any of his blogging advice, if you have ever guest posted for him, if he has ever re-blogged you, if you have ever commented on HarsH ReaLiTy and met another blogger there, please sign below.

Comment – leave your words of support or just write the words, Save HarsH ReaLiTy. I will make sure the WordPress powers-that-be see this post and all the support that goes with it.

Re-blog – make sure this goes out to every corner of WordPress that Jason has reached.

HarsH ReaLiTy is not a spam blog. It is WordPress’s shining star.

Edit: I’m purposely NOT responding to comments here so as not to dilute the message: WE SUPPORT HARSH REALITY AND WHAT JASON DOES TO HELP BLOGGERS!! Thank you to all who have shared and commented so far, and thanks in advance to all who will. Please keep commenting and re-blogging! Let’s keep this at the top of the Reader!

Edit: Now that HarsH ReaLiTy’s suspension is lifted I’ll turn off the comments here. This post will remain, however, as testimony to what Jason means to us! Long live Opinionated Man!!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who commented and re-blogged. Your support is both overwhelming and heartwarming.
Now pass around the cookies!! 😀

Edit – April 20th: Jason re-blogged this with the following comment:

I actually didn’t read this until now because I was moody at the time. I feel the love from this post and the comments here. Thanks bloggers. -OM

I’ve turned the comments back on. You’re very welcome, Jason. It was the least I could do for all you’ve done for this community. 😀

Save Harsh Reality. Tis blog is definitely not spam. Jason became one of my very first followers on WordPress and I followed back because he not only had an interesting blog but an interesting point of view and he sincerely wanted to help other bloggers. I hope that his blog will be allowed to continue because it truly is one of a kind and a real WordPress gem.

Jason was one of the very first bloggers to follow my early ramblings and helped me find a way to promote my work. This was no easy feat as I was still finding my voice and I appreciated what help I could get. I’ve never had any reason to classify his site as a spam referral.

Linda is asking those of us who love and follow Jason Cushman to join in an effort to have his rights restored to him. I wholeheartedly agree with this effort, and ask those who find this to do likewise. Even if you do not know Jason, and have not followed his blogs, I urge you to do so on the principle of freedom of speech. If you do not speak up now for Jason, who will be around when they come after your blog?

Along with what has to be thousands of others, I support Jason and restoring full access to WP. I am not a major blogger, 60 followers to-date and less than 100 posts, but were it not for Jason and all the good he does I doubt I would have more than 20 followers, most of those that I have found me from Jason. Yet, I have never guest posted or reblogged a single post of his.

His instructions on blogging, writing, and proper behavior have helped be to become not only a better blogger, but a better WP citizen, and a better person as a whole.

PLEASE! Don’t look at just those few who dislike him, think of the thousands of us who like him, and who look forward to reading his posts and interacting with him on a daily basis.

This is just Ridiculous!! Why in the world would WordPress Suspend Harsh Reality’s blog? What did he do wrong? Last time I looked Following
other blogs and commenting wasn’t a crime. Or is it? Did WP have a brain Freeze? Cause non of this makes any sense.. You may not be able to comment on our post but know that, We are all with you Jason!

This is how I understand spamming on social media. I am new to blogging so I may not be getting the whole picture, bare with me. Spamming to me is when someone is trying to increase their traffic on their blog to make money either through advertising or selling their own product. So the person likes and follows another blogger and the liked blogger may go to their site and just the act of going their creates revenue for the person or gets the person to look at their product. The first example would be the most unethical spammer behavior to me. I have been liked and followed by some people looking to sell me something and I ignore them after I see what they are about. It seems like there are gray areas. If a blogger does not have the motives I have listed I think that we can not call them spammers.

I can’t really tell if Jason, the author of Harsh Reality, commented in any of my post. But, I do remember how hospitable he was when I visited his site and checked out his profile. He’s very friendly, and you’ll love his posts! (Even if those were just composed of two to three sentences, mind you!)

I hope WordPress can reconsider their decision, thus remove the suspension given to Harsh Reality. 🙂

    To Jason:

You have the heart of the bloggers, bro. Hope you’ll continue to share your posts, even if they won’t lift that damn suspension. BUT, with all the support that WordPress might be reading by this time, I believe they’ll send you a great news as soon as possible.

    HAPPY WRITING EVERYONE! 😀

I wrote this on another post supporting Jason earlier, and I’ll say it again here.

OM does three things VERY well:

    1. Posts often and starts conversations.

    2. Grows an audience.

    3. Helps bloggers network and discover and support one another’s work.

And if that’s not at the very core of what WordPress should be about, then I truly don’t know what is.

I support Harsh reality and I love reading Jason’s posts. It is evident that he is deeply passionate about blogging. Also he never misuses his huge following and follower base. I stand with the opinionated man. It is not just about his blog but freedom to choose ones conduct over the blogosphere. WordPress do not hand cuff people and limit their resourcefulness in the name of better and spam free blogging experience.

Harsh Reality aka Jason aka A Opinionated Man was one of the first people I met and was one of my first followers. His mission is to help people/writers/bloggers and to speak the truth. For WordPress to now say he can’t do that anymore is an issue! WordPress should be proud of his success and is in no way SPAM. Good grief! Opinionated Man’s Harsh Reality is one of the reasons I kept blogging. Perhaps if we stir up enough noise, WordPress may reverse course and use some discretion on this circumstance.

Remember, its the spirit of the law, not necessarily the letter of it which I hope WordPress realizes.
