Robust isn’t a word I use often. If I did I would perhaps say that I enjoy a robust wine, or blend of coffee. By that I would mean extremely flavourful. But. (There’s always a “but” in there, right?)
I looked up “robust” in my trusty Thesaurus and came up with some very interesting synonyms. Among them are: athletic, hard-headed, lusty, realistic, rollicking, straightforward, and unsubtle.
… How…? I mean how do you describe, say, a person as having all these qualities?
“The athlete rollicked straightforwardly into a lusty yet realistic dance, with an unsubtle hard-headedness. Because that’s who he was.”
Or even worse:
“The wine rollicks over the tongue with an athletic, lusty twist before heading straightforwardly to the belly warming your insides in an unsubtle, hard-headed… really… I don’t even.”
Who knew the word “robust” could mean so many things? For a six-letter word, it’s got to be the most confusing one in the English language.
This “Robust” prompt is brought to you by Michael at Morpethroad. Click on the link and have a read, and tell him I said hi! And thank him for the crazy prompt!

The story pinged on honorable, but not robust. In order to stay some what up on jusjotjan, I combo’d robust & honorable then used the two words in Friday Fictioner’s prompt response. So, I cheated, but now I can do SoCS and catch up on other things.
Enjoying what other’s say in comments and stories.

Robust is a brilliant word! in all its capacities.
I *think* the problem many of us face is that we’ve come to accept that we have forgotten the more elaborate and less than now common forms and usages of many words. For as expansive as personal vocabularies can be – we have sadly – continued to limit and narrow our usage until the re-discovered “old” seems odd and or new to us.
Ironic how languages morph and contract with time.
Fun post and interesting read – as well as excellent prompt – but then, Michael always something fascinating cooking up his sleeve 🙂

He certainly does. 🙂 I fear our language may be rapidly descending, what with textspeak (see? 😛 ), but those of us who remember can hope to teach the newer generations the beauty of it.
Thanks for your comment! 😀

I didn’t realise there would be so many links back to me which has been such fun to read what people are saying…I didn’t realise either that robust would be such a challenging word which is good as it gets folk thinking…..so thanks for this insight into how your challenge works….I’m sorry I’m not organised enough to participate but I have discovered some new followers and that always a good thing even if I never see them again..lol….so best wishes for the rest of the challenge……

Robust indeed my dear…..I should tell you that when I was teaching I used to do a writing task with my students where they were given ten minutes to write and one of the topics was a Roger Robust…….I used to get some amazing responses, just like this time when I read the responses that come my way…have a good day…
