What Day is it Anyway? February 8, 2024

Yep. It’s back.

Actually, I needed a What Day is it Anyway? yesterday.

I made such a bonehead move.

On Tuesday, I had to get up at 5am to start my son Alex’s tube feeding so I could make it out the door for a dentist appointment by 10.

Yesterday, I forgot to turn off the alarm, so it rang again at 5.

And I trusted it.

I dragged myself into a sitting position, put on my robe and slippers, and trudged down the stairs to get Alex’s feed started.

It was only when I was pulling the containers of formula out of the case when I thought …

What am I doing?

Am I going somewhere today? Is Alex?

Noooo!

So I put the formula back and trudged back up the stairs.

On my way back to bed, I checked on Alex. He woke up.

“What time is it?” he asked in sign language.

“It’s 5:00,” I replied.

“What are you doing?”

“I don’t know,” I said with a shake of my head. “Go back to sleep. I’ll explain later.”

I trudged back to my room, took off my robe and slippers, and went back to bed.

When I told Alex what happened yesterday, he laughed and laughed.

Bonehead Mom.

Sleepyhead Mom. I hope you went back to sleep and glad Alex had a good laugh.

I have, much to my sons annoyance, woken him up at 6am on a saturday so we could get ready for school. I am quickly and pointedly reminded then that there is no school.

Those are the moments we can laugh about through the years. Remember that time…. lol
I’d rather be able to shut the alarm off and crawl back to bed than to forget to set the alarm when I need it and be scrambling.

This has happened to both my wife and me this week, Linda. I blame winter.

IF I work 36 hours straight on any front, hopefully I have clocks, phone alarms, etc., all set to utilize/display EVERYWHERE! around me – military time – i.e. 0:00 hours is midnight – in my local time – 23:59 hours is right before today, becomes tomorrow – sometimes I get OPTION in my tools, or can use tools that show their preferred time (GMT/UTC for global operations, converted to my prefernces of “Just tell me what time you did this, for me, supposedly, without me having to open up time converter or convert for YOUR notices/alerts, when I’m tired –

Sigh – thefall out from busy, everyone has their prefs and think all around them should just adjust to their needs (in service providers) and WHAT is really needed, for the individual, set me own options, and make it easy to convert/display stuff for me/my needs – ” LOL

I once, long ago, did that – now? um, I’ve only logged 30 hours in a row of no sleep/rest a couple of times, since last August – I am slowing down and/or – no longer willing to do that to myself, even if EVERYHTHING falls around me, that. I tried to warn ‘adults’ about – children? pets? those who are vulnerable? Heck ya! i’ll kill myself for those folks – but …NO longer do I do such things for perfectly capable adults, that I treat ilke adults, making their own decisions – for as long as I’ve ‘known’ you, here, you have been #1 care provider AND breadwinner and ….(insert everything you right about/share with others) – cut yourself the slack you graciously give others (like me….). LOL

Congratulations on giving yourself the space to slow down. I mean that sincerely. It’s not as easy as it looks.
I’ve always been harder on myself than I am on other people. But I’ll try. Thank you. ❤

<3. I'll remember that! So if I ever read something, I'll KNOW to add a comment, saying, "Linda – um – friendly reminder – read your post about your challenges and dropping the ball – pretend like you're reading ME posting it – now – say to yourself, what you would say to me…. " – – See? Challenge – solved! LOL

    We all a
Have days like that! Last night I gave in to Brandy’s cries to get on the bed cause the floor was cold. I’m not supposed to lift over 5lbs. She weighs 15! But I got down low and tried to boost her up. I hope I didn’t hurt anything with that bonehead move!!
