Woohoo! The 9th annual Just Jot it January is in the bag!
We’ve had a snowy, indoors kind of January this year, but I did manage to jot something every day this month. I’m so glad I went back to the regular format for JusJoJan this year. And we had some really amazing prompts! Thanks to all who suggested them. 😀
How did you do? Did you post every day in January? Did you at least jot something somewhere? Let me know in the comments, or write your own “I did it! #JusJoJan22 Edition” post and link it back here.
Congrats to everyone who joined in! Here’s your annual participant badge.
Who knew it was possible to hit the finish line after missing half the race?
Seems like I took a shortcut.
More like I got lost. Because it wasn’t intentional.
However, I did follow the Just Jot it January rules: I’ve written 20,375 words on one project, and edited 91 pages on another. Plus I’ve beta-read two other people’s books and written ten pages of feedback for each. And I published a boxed set of Books 1-3 of my paranormal magician series. ( <– That’s a link to the stores that have uploaded it so far. 😀 Apple and B&N are coming.)
So what about this post is funny or facetious? Maybe the first line. Funny is hard when you feel guilty, as it turns out.
I still plan to post for the prompts I missed, belated as they’ll be.
In the meantime, thanks so much for hanging in there with me! I’ll be back tomorrow with a wrap up post and your participation badge.
Welcome to the Daily 2022 Just Jot it January Prompt and the Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt for SATURDAY, JANUARY 29th! Again, I must apologize for my absence so much of this week, especially to the wonderful bloggers who have provided the prompts. I’ve just been overwhelmed with everything–too much to mention. Again, I’ll try to catch up before the month is over.
For those of you joining SoCS for the first time, it’s a little different than the other prompts in that it’s not always a whole or single word. If you’re joining in from JusJoJan, don’t want to write stream of consciousness style, no worries. It’s up to you! If you do want to try it, please check out the rules below. It’s fun! Here’s your Saturday prompt:
Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “let go.” Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think “let go.” Enjoy!
After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome post. Anyone can join in!
To make your post more visible, use our SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!
You can also use the Just Jot it January badge! To find the rules for Just Jot it January, click here.
Here are the rules for SoCS:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

Apparently we’re supposed to get a ridiculous amount of snow overnight tonight and tomorrow.
And I’m fed up.
But it’s not what you think.
Last week (after not being at school since before Christmas), I was having a really tough time trying to convince Alex that Monday the 17th was the day to go back to school. He fought and fought, because he’s watching the news like everyone else, and he doesn’t feel like it’s safe to go back.
I might agree with him if three of his classmates weren’t likely going to be off school next week.
Because he’s in a class of four students—he’s going to be alone with his teacher and his EA.
So I talked to his teacher last week by email and told her he was nervous. She got on Zoom with him on Friday and did such a great job of convincing him that he should go back to school on Monday, that now he’s mad at me because I likely won’t be able to get the car out of the driveway in the morning because of the snow.
Just when you think everything’s going your way …
Ugh! I’m so fed up.
(Don’t feel bad. I’m actually laughing. Because what else can you do? Hehee!)
I love the experience of seeing how other people live. I love people-watching.
But I don’t think that makes me “cosmopolitan.”
I’m just really curious.
I actually had to look up cosmopolitan in the dictionary to make sure I knew what it meant.
Here’s what Merriam-Webster has to say.
1 : marked by interest in, familiarity with, or knowledge and appreciation of many parts of the world : not provincial, local, limited, or restricted by the attitudes, interests, or loyalties of a single region, section, or sphere of activity : worldwide rather than regional, parochial, or narrow
2 : marked by sophistication and savoir faire arising from urban life and wide travel
Yeah, I’ve got the appreciation part down and the wide travel. But sophisticated? Me?
I live in my pajamas.
When I’m not traveling, of course.

(No, seriously. Click the link. They have calories.)
Or maybe I’ll just stay home and stick a horn on the dog and get fat on Turtles.
(Turtles are real. And they have calories.)
