You never know what you’ve got until you lose it. It’s a saying we hear all the time; sometimes in moments of profound loss, sometimes it’s trivial. In my case, in many ways it’s the latter.
There’s no summer camp for my youngest son this week. I used to think it was a luxury to have the time to write. Now, however, my luxuries include sitting for more than two minutes at the table to eat a meal without being interrupted, showering, and going to the washroom.
The latter of these I believe, falls into the profound category.
So if you see a woman walking around the grocery store buying finger foods, with stringy hair and smudges of dirt on her face and with eyes bulging out of her sockets and her legs crossed, try not to point and laugh. It’s probably just a woman who’s missing summer camp.

Wishing you safe moments for sanity, showers, and sh**. I feel blessed that my four were close together and those days of needing solitude are just memories. And I knew it was temporary. Sending thoughts of peace and moments for yourself.

Yes, you see, when you are a grandmother those moments are farther between…you appreciate them more because you can send them home, and it is not every waking moment that commands your attention.

Thing is, I don’t know if I’ll ever be free of them. Of the two at home, the 17 year old is severely autistic and the 12 year old has the mentality of a 6 year old. Add a grandchild to the mix and I’m temporary toast! haha

Thanks. 🙂 The rest of my life more than likely. So yeah, I’ve told my eldest no grandchildren until he’s fifty! By then I’ll be too old to worry about it.

Ah, yes, I think mothers (and fathers) everywhere can relate to this. Especially those of us who try to find time to write. 🙂

My youngest is actually almost 13, but the two that still live at home are mentally still in the single digits, both of them disabled. I’m in it for the loooooong haul. 😛

Oh, my. I can see how crucial that summer camp must be. You are probably in need of respite and understandably so.

Love it! However, I’m not likely to spot you in the grocery store these days. Am now home in New Zealand. Six years have passed since I lived in Saint-Victor – an hour’s drive south of Quebec City…

Thank you 🙂 Six years ago I was living in Gatineau, Quebec. We were practically next door neighbours! haha
