#JusJoJan 2018, the 23rd – Colour

I have this idea. It’s not really a theory, because I don’t really believe it to be true, but what if … Okay, I’ve tried to explain this concept to people before, and they just haven’t been able to grasp it. See if you can figure out what I’m trying to say. Ready?

What if …

What if we all see different colours? So for me, the sky is blue, right? And for you the sky is blue. But what if I could see through your eyes, and to me, through your eyes, the sky is what I’ve always known to be red? It doesn’t mean either of us are colour blind, because every time we see that colour, we identify it as “blue.” When you think about it, “blue” is really just a label, isn’t it?

So you could say that’s impossible, because you describe blue as being something that’s cold, and red as something that’s hot. But what if your sunburns are blue … if I see them through your eyes?

What if none of us see the same colours?

Blow your mind? Make any sense at all? Wait … Stop backing away slowly! I’m harmless, really!

This totally freaky post is is brought to you by Just Jot it January, and in particular, prompted by the word “colour,” provided by Supernatural Snark, aka Hip to be Snark! 1. Sassy’s colorblind in ways I can’t define. It’s a real thing. We only recently noticed, too. So many things make sense now.

  2. We had an ice cream scoop that Mary swore to me was pink, even though I could see it was silver. When I pointed it out, she said “I always thought it was pink…”

  3. Maybe that’s what our problems stem from all along.

  4. It makes a lot of sense to me. I’m partially color blind, and I’m sure I don’t see the same colors as you (or most people) but I do see what I believe to be blue, gray (lots of grays), green and purple.

  5. This is wonderful. Linda, I have honestly thought along these lines too 😱 I believe the same as you but about everything we see, read and write..
What if we all see the same things differently. Every word is just a name as a colour is just a colour … I try not to think too much about this as things , say sofa start to loose it’s meaning.
Hey don’t look at me like that 🌹🌹🌹🌹

  7. Aristotle developed the first known theory of color believing it was sent by God from heaven through celestial rays of light.

  10. You are not only, NOT crazy but this is true! I noticed it about a decade ago when playing a game with friends. One friend chose his board marker and we had to pull to the corresponding card for him. He called it orange or pink (I can’t remember now) and I said it was the other. I was really surprised with how everyone in the room called out a different color name for this card. So I got busy researching. Here is a site that explains it somewhat. https://www.livescience.com/21275-color-red-blue-scientists.html I have seen games on FaceBook that try and see how you see the colors. The results friends get compared to me (which I usually score high) is amazing. And how we all decided what is blue and what is red and all the other colors and we agreed is amazing if we really aren’t seeing the colors the same.

  11. What if indeed! We have to unlearn colours for some kids in nursery, and get them to relearn the correct ones because they have things wrong in their minds…but you’re right… what if!

  12. That’s a horse of a different color. My first car, a 69 Dodge Dart, was mostly green with a hint of blue. My friend said it was blue with a little green, but definitely blue. I didn’t get how she could see more blue than green. Not sure if that supports your theory which is interesting.
